Truly a shame. She had a genuine talent, briefly realized. It shows yet again how difficult it can be to battle our demons, despite all the support one can purchase....

She had that quality that just made me understand her. Not many singers have that.

It was a rare talent we experienced with her.
She was so tortured with her addictions.. maybe it's a blessing she didn't have to suffer any more.

Rest in Peace, Amy.

I didn't like her. Creatively talented people frequently have issues, but there are some artists whose issues are confused for talent. Winehouse IMO was one of those. I'm sure it was a tragedy for those who loved her, and condolences to them, but she is not in the same class as people like Cobain or Hendrix.

It's sad to see such talent and young life wasted. The only good thing is that at least she isn't suffering anymore.

IMHO I think the title of your thread wasn't really necessary and could have perhaps been a little more considerate and respectful.

She didn't get arrested passed out on her lawn, she died. The "ah-Ha" title is in poor taste, if you ask me.

I don't feel a damn thing, if someone chooses to end their own life through addiction so be it. In the meantime MY prayers are for the innocent people of Norway, may they be avenged in a swift and resolute manner!

I find it curious you feel the necessity to bring up the issue of the tragedy of Norway in a thread about the death of Winehouse. Does it bother you that her death if somehow competing for headline space ? They're both tragedies of an entirely different nature.

There are thousands upon thousands of people around the globe who listened and were moved by the music of Amy Winehouse. And I'm sure millions of people will be shocked and sadenened by the horrific events in Norway and yet few people here in Canada or the US will actually know or relate to the victims in that country.

If we were to prioritize our news in terms of events affecting the most humanity then the issue of Norway would be taking a back seat to the famine currently unfolding in Africa.

The words "Prayers" and "Avenged" in the same sentence is always rather interesting to me.
Well, some pray to the Old Testament God, whose vengeance was mighty (but mostly against those who failed to pray to Him). And of course, praying for vengeance is another thing that our fundamentalists share with Islamic extremists, so it is clear that they are really praying to same god.

Don't you know that we are all given measureably equal amounts of free will, and those who fall victim of their own vices deserve no sympathy whatsoever? Obviously we should spit on their graves while we make our way past, on our mission to wreak vengeance on evildoers.

It seems that the more creative talent you have, the less likely you will be able to fight off addiction.

I find this as no surprise at all...to be honest I expected it....it was just a matter of time.....that gal had some serious talent but she had worse addiction issues......she did not need rehab she needed a hardcore serious intervention by the people who were supposed to be close to her but they failed to do that.

Link all and everything from the internet you wish to support for what you have to say....tabloid headlines dont mean jack-shit....the gal needed a serious intervention (as in being locked away from the influences/temptations for a long period of time....not a month....more like 6 months) and at the same time she needed a strong hand guiding her to keep her straight and not smoking crack or shooting heroin....she died due to her addictions....it actually sickens me that someone who could bring happiness to millions of people is adulated upon her self destruction by her own hand is grieved about far more than the innocent decent people on this planet that snuff it due to random chance and freak accidents....my brother comes to mind....dead at the age of 24 on New Years Day in a car accident...the previous evening he asked his GF's Father's permission to marry the girl....the nest day whilst driving home...due to a bad decision he snuffed it..... a decent law abiding turn-the-cheek god fearing person who never drank and sure as hell never did drugs of any kind gets wiped off whilst boozing/drug happy celebrities get way with everything....sorry I have no sympathy for that shit.

It is a small shame that Amy Winehouse snuffed it....it was expected.....If I were a morbid bastard I would play the "deathlist" and she ould have been #1 on that list....I am not that morbid though nor that unfeeling....keep up posting the links as well as the "internet-smartness" though......when you get a taste of what real PERSONAL loss feels like due to experiencing it....as it rips your family to shreds...then feel free to have a conversation.....dont link internet highlights into it though....do me that small favour please.

Really, I'm sure parents are able to lock away their 25+ yrs old adult kids. Seriously, families have to deal with the tragedy of watching their kid destroy themselves every day. As if it was as simple as "locking them away" (or even legal).. If the person doesn't want to get better, it's pointless to force them because you can't keep them locked forever and eventually they'll do what they want however much you try to keep them from doing it. What you're suggesting is completely unrealistic and not a solution that works. You can't force someone to beat their addictions, they have to do it themselves. Don't you think parents of the millions of addicts out there would be doing just that if it was that easy? It's not.

Internet "smartness"? wth? I don't even know what that means or what the problem with links is..? What? No links allowed, let's just talk out of our asses and pretend we just know. That makes no sense. Like declaring you spelled something wrong, for example, and you telling me "no dictionaries allowed - but trust me, I know I'm right". In my world, it's valued to look stuff up before I say something or when someone contradicts what I've said. If you just want to talk without ever bothering to check if that's really the case - sorry, that's your own problem.

How the hell would you know what kind of personal loss I've experienced? That's pretty presumptuous of you and I don't need any links to tell you that.

You seem to feel that you're entitled to look down on others and throw stones. That's your right, I just personally find that arrogant and ignorant. But I assume it must make you feel better to place yourself above others and decide you're qualified to judge, so suit yourself. It seems this would only prove just the opposite but hey, that's not for me to judge. ;)

I'm sorry that empathy and compassion are clearly not your strongest qualities and no amount of arguing or reasoning is going to change that..... so keep judging.

Well said, Miss... I would also imagine this quote could be used several times a week to other members on this board.
Would you mind if I quoted this eloquent statement as my signature?

OMG, Get off your moral high horse.
The girl was a train wreck waiting to happen. Just recently I saw some video of a concert where they literally had to carry her up to the microphone and stand her up just so she could slur the words to one of her songs out before the concert was cancelled.
Talent? Sure maybe a bit but she was a singer/celebrity. Its not like she cured cancer or devoted her life to working with the poor or orphans.
