War Of The Worlds

This is a Steven Speilberg film. Not a Tom Cruise film. Whens the last time S.S. made a bad film?

It may not be Jaws or Jurassic Park but S.S. doesn't make bad films. IMHO.

But time will tell soon enough.

rottentomatoes...

I find Rotten Tomatoes very useful. It compiles many (if not all) of the movie reviews across many media outlets and accordingly gives each film an overall rating.

This is the very first time I visited rottentomatoes.com...a great site...thanks for the lead.

Is there a rottentomatoes version for music?
thanks

Though he has not made horrible films, he has made a few that I was not thrilled about:

Amistad
the last half hour of AI
Always
Empire of the Sun
Jurrasic Park 2

Not the last half of A.I. - all of A.I. Not only did that movie not thrill me, that movie sucked.

War of the Worlds

Sad to say that this movie is a "stinker". I was expecting a lot more from this Spielberg film, but it was waste of time and 128 million bucks. The whole alien destroying mankind scene was the only thrill but the storyline involving Tom Cruise's character and his family was boring and unappealing.

No wonder they only allowed critics to review it a few days before it came out. I doubt this movie will be a huge box office hit. Save your $$ and wait till it comes out in your neighbourhood video rental outlet.

:(

Saw War of the Worlds today. Thought it was very entertaining and worth the price of admission. The ending was a bit disappointing but overall would recommend this film. Some people over analyze films but just sit back and enjoy.

Was flippin' thru channels this CD morning and came across The View. I WILL NEVER watch this show, but I saw Cruise sitting there looking calm for a change so stopped to watch. He seemed reasonable until he started raving about the magnificent Katie and jumped over the couch (what is this couch abuse thing?) to get Katie at their request. What has happened to this girl? She looks gaunt and stunned. They even handed her a microphone, asked her questions and she didn't utter a single word. They finally went to commercial when it was evident she wouldn't (couldn't?) speak and then Tom whispered something to her. Very, very freaky even by TC's freaky behaviour standards. This guy's starting to make Michael look normal.

Watched the movie. it was awesome, but my biggest gripe I have is the ending of it. Besides that, everything else was pretty darn good.

I wish the ending would have been done a little differently, but I guess being a remake they cannot simply rip apart the movie and do something else with it.

It makes you stop and think for a second though. What if we are really invaded by naughty aliens... all hell gonna break loose. And if it does, its everyone up for themselves I guess..

I just saw it.

Spielberg was aiming to terrify his audience (as with Orson Welles) but I think he misses the mark somewhat.

The visuals and sound effects were nifty (I'm going to shit myself everytime I hear a foghorn), although the film focuses more on the victims of the attack instead of the spectacle of aliens blowing up American landmarks. The influence of 9/11 is very obvious. The melodrama with Tom Cruise's character and his family goes on a little too long, and it could have done without the scenes with Tim Robbins as the crazy backwoods guy. Plus, I can't buy Cruise as a father when he looks as young as his son.

I give it a 5/10.
