I'm looking for suggestions for inexpensive (but not roach-infested) motels or hotels in Vancouver or Burnaby, easily accessible by public transportation, ideally skytrain. I've looked at previous threads and several mention "day rates," but when I call and ask the clerks act like they don't know what I'm talking about. This is for daytime fun with a friend. Thanks!

I dunno bout Vancouver but back in the day here in Seattle there was something known as " hot sheet" motels that rented by the hour.

I'm surprised those clerks don't know anything about day rates. The web site for Carman Fox has some hotels listed that have day rates. Follow the link and look down the left hand side of the page:

Day rates exist!

Day Rooms

Executive Inn, close to Gilmore skytrain station has dayrates ($80, room until 5pm). So does the Ex Inn close to Lougheed station ($60 but only get the room until 3pm). Both are decent quality.

Lately it's hit and miss at these places for landing a day room, it all depends on how full they're booked. Lately hasn't been good due to summer tourists, but should be good again soon. Usually can't reserve one in the summer, but sometimes can at other times of year.

I've never had a clerk not know what I was talking about when I've asked for a day room.

The rates shown on the CF page are either old or off-season.
