The kinds of materiel they have requested from Canada, may be an indicator of their inability to fund and supply basic goods required in an emergency. All these years of putting a brave face on its foreign policy, and the chronic budget hemorrhage caused by the war in Iraq have taken their toll, unbeknownst to the American public.
The US cannot meet its needs at home, because they are too heavily taxed on the world stage. That could partially explain why they were so slow to respond to a crisis on their own soil. That can also explain all the recent base closures, many of which were previously thought to be immune from cutbacks. They won’t come out and say it, but I think our friends to the south are hurting bad, even if the bad has come for the most part at the hands of their own politicians.
