Anyone have experience with massage chairs - the ones that are fully automated and massage the back and legs (and some the arms)? How long have you had it and how reliable has it been, what brand/model and how often do you use it?

Hi jc,
I have an old Panasonic Massage Lounger 1260 (about 4 years old) and it does an OK job on massaging the back. It's rhythmic and it sometimes eases some of my daily stress away. I have above average muscular calves which fits tightly into the massager. It's a little too snug and uncomfortable for my liking so I mainly use the Massage Lounger for the back "vibration and thumping". This model doesn't have the arm rollers unlike the new ones in today's market. I've had no mechanical or electrical challenges with it so far.

For the first few months, I was using it about 4 times a week. Then for whatever reason, I was using it less and less. 4 years later, at most, I may now use it twice a month. My friends love using the Massage Lounger but the novelty has run its course for me.

It takes up as much room as a Lazy Boy Recliner but the styling (for obvious reasons) can be a bit of an eyesore. Best to have it in the Man Cave or Library / Study room.

Personally, I prefer the medieval body torture from the likes of the well reviewed S.E. Burnaby Nelly or Richmond's Wendy on Buswell to rid the hard back and shoulder knots.

Peace.

Get a pro pedicure or manicure & test one out for an hour without the sales pressure. Imo lame & kinda irritating like a disinterested amateur massage & agree with above, eyesore.

For effective at home soft tissue therapy, I recommend the rumble roller (full size), thumper sport massager & a good old hot water bottle.

I have a Panasonic, can't remember the model. it must weight 600#. It's black so can't go in the living room because it doesn't "match" so... it sits in the bedroom. and I can't remember the last time I used it.

I have a high end one from a previous relationship. It was worth a few grand to buy. It is all right for a couple tries then the real thing is better.

I have had a Panasonic Massage Pro Ultra for four years now, have never had any issues with it and use it every day. It was about $5000. I am 6' and weigh 186 lbs and it fits me just fine including the leg and arm/hand massage parts (besides everything is adjustable). It weighs a lot and is quite large and kind of needs it's own room. We have set up a spa room that is very peaceful with large windows that look out over the lake; it's a gret way to relax and unwind with a glass of wine and a book at night. It's also part of my morning routine: spin class, hot tub then 20 mins in the massage chair. Like another poster mentioned, it doesn't take the place of a real RMT but is a great extra.
