Boo hooo f***ing hoo!

Sportsnet.ca -- The Calgary Flames will be without the services of veteran defenceman Bryan Marchment after an MRI revealed severed damage to Marchment's left knee.

Sportsnet has learned Marchment's MRI revealed a torn ACL and MCL, leaving Marchment to contemplate season-ending surgery. If the Flames and Marchment decide to avoid the knife and try to go the rehab route, there exists a slight chance Marchment may try to play again this season -- without the ACL ligament. The decision should be made within the next 48 hours.

At his age, he'll probably call it a career. How ironic that it would end this way for him...you live by the sword, you die by it. Looks good on him....

I hate to say this, but Marchment deserves it. He's a dirty player and has caused many bad injuries to players over the years. Karma...

Him and Ulf Samuelson (spell) were highly regarded as dirty assholes to play against.

I don't mind if a player plays the game hard and with a lot of grit but cheapshots and intent to injure is unacceptable. His career is pretty much done now. Ironic way to end his career.

Craig Muni

I can't believe you guys have failed to mention the original "knee-taker-outer", Craig Muni. Although I wasn't too happy when Marchment went after knees, he was overall a good, reliable defenceman. That is evidenced by how long he played in the NHL.

I do agree though, what goes around comes around.

I wonder what the Flames will do now since they signed Marchment solely to help develop Phanuef ... although in my opinion, he is well ahead in his development.

Mmmmm, how about two Jovos for a Phaneuf? If we only could! Dare to dream I guess.

Marchment finally gone

It should surprise no one that Marchment went out on a knee on knee collision with Toronto's Jason Allison. For his entire career, Marchment has attempted to injure other players with this type of check. It's hard not to love the irony involved. Personally I hope the SOB walks with a limp for the rest of his life.

About time

For years this guy has injured or attempted to injure other players without regard to their carreers. It's about time the knee on knee hits he was infamous for finally results in him suffering the same fate as he has visited on so many other players. Couldn't have happened to a better candidate.

dumb question
Sure the guy is more or less a thug but other than that he really poses no threat when it comes to scoring goals. Anyone remember a few years back when he was with edmonton playing dallas in the playoffs when his skate hit a rut in front of the dallas bench and he fell into the open door edge? OUCH! Even I felt that. Anywho, he shouldn't be missed too much. MacCarty (correct spelling?) more then fills the job but he hits clean.

Never was a Marchment Fan

But to that end, I think before some of you Vancouver fans point fingers at him you need to look inward as the worst play in NHL History for an attempted to injure currently belongs to an active member of the Canuks. (yes even worse that the incident that put a steelplate in Ted Greens head)He has perhaps changed a persons lifestlye for ever, not just a playing career. Marchment is no angle and his 17 years in the league a lot of low hits but Todd B and Marchment do not and should not be representtives of what hockey is all about.

Marchment made a career of attempting to end other's while the Bertuzzi gaffe was a one time event. Stupid comparison.

Bertuzzi is not known as a player to intentionally injure throughout his career while Marchment is known to do that especially with knee on knee checks.

I don't think many players in the league were sad to see him go.

Let the stats speak for themselves

Over the last 11 Season that Todd Bertuzzi and Bryan Marchment have been in the league together (no time accounted for on suspension) here is the NHL stats

Games Played Penalty Mins
671 985 1.5 mins/game Todd
644 1153 1.79 mins/game Bryan

I was still not a fan of what Marchment brings to the ice but his presents in the Dressing room was what he was brought in for by the Calgary Flames and his former coach Mr.Sutter.
The prison system houses many inmates who "gaffe" one time in their lives professional athelets seem to get frequently free passes from the law, something you and I fellow pooners would not get.
Cheering on any bodies misfortunes seems to be a low blow (aka Marchment)

Using a penalty minutes per game comparison to further demonize Bertuzzi and prop up Marchment is ridiculous. You obviously know fuck all about the sport.

You know, there was this other D-man who played a fairly spirited game with similar penalty stats to Bertuzzi (657gp...953pim...1.45pm per gp) and by using your method of comparison he should be held in the same regard as Bryan Marchment. His name? BOBBY ORR!!!!
