Where do folks here acquire their leather goods, especially clothing and boots? Do you mostly buy custom or are there "off the rack" places you know of? I'm looking to start a collection, mostly for play. I'm also wondering if there are many BDSM / Fetish folk who have issues with leather (animal cruelty, etc.) and how they work around that. What nonleather options work? I intend to have a suit of leather armour, with appropriate headgear, made at some point (possibly based on the spartan model) and that will have to be custom, I'm sure. I'm also undergoing an intense body modification at the moment so it will at least several moths until I know what size I am.

Costuming is apparently an important part of the scene and I'm trying to get a understanding of the options, variations, etc. Personally I like leather but there may be options I'm unaware of.

You need to do a lot of shopping, especially for men's leather goods. Prices tend to be all over the place for similar goods. I found a nice pair of men's lambskin pants for $150 at a store in Montreal. I've seen similar pants advertised anywhere from $140 to $300. They have a website www.cuironline.com

For other local stores, Priape has some good stuff at reasonable prices. If you can't find what you want in the store, they can probably hook you up with somebody that will do custom garments for you.

When I used to buy a lot of fetish gear I was mainly interested in pvc, because of the whole animal rights thing with leather. I don't mind having a little leather in my closet, and it seems like you can't avoid it, but I would much rather have everything in pvc if I could manage it.

I also like the look of rubber, but the sweat is a real issue. So far I've only bought a pair of elbow length rubber gloves, which are sweet looking, but even with talc when I take them off the built up sweat is so much, it's not good (and mixed with talc can be really messy).

Oh, and my rubber wellies from A&N. Very cheap, but very good fetish gear and practical--unlike my pvc boots.

Just go around Gastown and range a bit further along Hastings, and you can get a complete fetish wardrobe.

ahhh - yes

Miss T - you mentioned my 2 favorite stores! I love New World and go there regularly! I hope to have a shopping day soon where I can peruse the local shops in the Gastown/South Granville and Hastings area (for those that dare - hastings has a lovely shoe store!). :D

Apparently I'm on your mind Miss Kittie. ;) It was Sexy Nina who recommended those shops, but I echo her recommendation.

Yes

has anyone ever bought PVC from Judy Basha?
I have a Judy Basha PVC corset. It can be seen in a few pics on my website (red bra underneath). Aeiyah, feel free to post a pic here.

I like it. It's made very well.
