Lack of support for the Goldeyes

Watching the Goldeyes replay from tonight's game, and I am stunned and disgusted at the empty seats I am seeing in the crowd - especially for a CHAMPIONSHIP game. And don't give me that BS about them being a minor league team - they consistently put out a great product year after year, it's super affordable to take the family out (not to mention the beer is reasonably priced), and it's generally a good time. Yet we have no problems filling a 30,000 seat stadium to support a team that's played like shit all year, and supporting a pathetic (at best) 4th rate hockey team. SHOW SOME FUCKING PRIDE!

I was there last night and yea it was hard to understand why so many empty seats but a lot has to do with it being fall and kids in school. If it were on the weekend it would be packed especially with kids!! The game went well past 10pm which is too late for the kiddies. I bet there will be more out tonight though.

I was there last night ..and will be there tonight.....although not a sell out....it was a pretty entertaining crowd...2 guys in front of me (behind the Goldeyes Bench)...got the chants going on their manager and Ziggy etc....all in all a GREAT game, and considering we are the leagues leader in attendance , I would have to say although dissapointed it was packed, am hopefull tonight will be close to a sellout!

Maybe the owner, Sam Katz has something to do with poor attendance. (Not exactly a popular guy in the 'Peg, is he?).

The Goldeyes lead the league in attendance every year. They get great support. Why the empty seats last night? Who knows but overall the support they get for a Single A club (one step above amateur ball) is quite good.
Although I will say I'd rather give them my money right now than that sorry group over on Maroons Road.

Anybody remember "The Winnipeg Whips"? They were the farm team of The Montreal Expos in the 70s. I went to a game with my dad and saw the likes of Warren Cromartie, Steve Rogers, and Tim Wallach. Geez, I'm dating my age! LOL.

I was there often. :thumb: Playing in a makeshift ball diamond at Wpg. Stadium.
I still have a Winnipeg Whips ball cap.

No disrespect, but you can't force people to enjoy watching baseball. IMHO it really is more of a southern sport in terms of popularity. Like many things, I like to play it, but I just can't watch it. Unfortunately, I enjoy watching football. And hockey is a no brainer in Canada. In any case, its personal preference - some people enjoy watching tennis and golf too. To me, it is less about the success of the team and more about the social experience. Winning is just the gravy.

Anyhow, seems like maybe turnout hasn't been all that bad after all.

There was over 5000 in attendance..so not that empty!
It looked beyond sad on TV... sadder part is, they won last night, which means they only need one win in 3 games in Wichita, and when they do win, what will this city do?
Nothing...
