I am kind of tired of the lame company I work for...so over the last few months I've been applying to Ads online regarding openings.

I got called in for an interview yesterday, and everything was going well until she asked me if I'm married...(at that point - discussing benefits) and I said no. She then goes "Ooohhhh you have a partner!" I thought what the fuck kind of comment is that!!!???

So i replied while laughing..."Can't a guy be single these days!!!???"

Personally, I could care less if anyone I work with is married. Christ, most guys I know that are married cheat like crazy, just to stay sane!

Yeah, I would guess she was trolling to see if you are up for a vigorous game of ' hide the salami '.

Probably more concerned about having to buy him a membership in the lonely hearts club.:D

I end up getting stuck doing some of the hiring at work.
I get all kinds of resumes. Where the guy will tell you how many kids or dependants he has.

It's like "Hire me, not that hotshot younger guy. I have 4 mouths to feed"

Asking a personal question like that, doesnt that fall into the category of the privacy act?

Im mean, I understand that certain occupations might require some info but what sort of work were you going after for them to ask this question??

Seems odd to me. Was it a credit card you were applying for lol??:p:p
I am not going to say the exact position, but let's just say it requires a higher screening process than your average office job!

Other items I had to agree to and sign were:

Criminal record check
Credit check
Travel History in the last 10 years
Complete job history over the last 10 years...including any time off or "breaks".
Other...

When I saw a box with Other...that they wanted me to check and sign for...is when I put my foot down and said no... "What does this mean anyways...?" And I wasn't given a proper answer.

I think personal information is given out a waaayyyy to freely today and it actually pisses me off. I don't trust any organization and that includes banks and the gov't!

Unless it's a bona fide occupational requirement (I can't think of any job in which marital status qualifies as BFOR) it's actually a violation of the Canadian Charter - prohibited grounds for refusing employment include things such as race, gender, physical disability, marital status etc. While the interviewer might have been just making small talk, she's actually opened herself up for a possible human rights complaint.

I remember going to an interview where they were doing this scary Walmart chant in the back as myself and a few other applicants waited in the lobby. The guy who interviewed me had his office stereo blasting during the process. I ended up walking out the door mid-sentence.... :D

Did you get the job:confused:
Funny thing was, the guy called me later & said to come back the next day & start at 11am, which I thought was odd. I figured, what the hell, I'll see what the fuck this was about, as he was very vague about what it was. I was 18, I was curious. Anyhow, he teams me up with 2 other guys, who drive out to a shopping mall in an area of the city where I am very unfamiliar, and they start talking about moving up in the company, and how within a year I could be moving to Calgary, Montreal, etc etc. Spider Senses going off huge...

Then one guy goes one way, and I am left with the other. Turns out, the job is selling those stupid menus for 20 bucks where you get 10 special prices at certain restaurants around the city. After 20 minutes of this shit in the mall parking lot, I walked away once again....

The lesson learned? Stay away from any add advertising "looking for 15-20 motivated individuals"... :D

Am I the only one who thinks she thought ITB is gay? To me it sounds like the "ooohhh" was a comment of relief! Heck, if she already had his criminal, credit, travel and job records who wouldn't? ;)

LOL

I had a similar chant happen at some Multi-level Marketing scam place...and even at 18 years old, I knew it was a complete waste of time. In fact, my friend and I went back late at night and egged the place for shits and giggles! :D

Are you sure you didn't forget what type of online Ad you were replying to and mistakenly use your perb handle? That may have caused an inappropriate question or two.:D

-When was the last time you were out of the country?
I just make weekend excursions to Mexico in the dead of the night...

Are you a violent person?
Only when I get fired....or someone pisses me off... or gets in my way.... or drinks the last of the coffee... or speaks to me....

What is your view on the abortion issue?
I refuse to answer on the grounds that it may inseminate me....

I've had about 30 interviews this year at least. Yes, many of the questions people ask are off the wall.
-When was the last time you were out of the country?
-Are you a violent person?
-What is your view on the abortion issue?
You've got to be fucking kidding!! You'd probably have grounds to lodge a human rights complaint against the assholes who asked those questions. And. they're not allowed to ask if you're married either. I left the corporate world twenty years ago, and even then, we knew better than to ask personal questions of that nature.
