Is the recession in Canada really over?

Curious as to weather or not its really over here in Canada? Judging by reactions from the last few sp's i've seen, no. Both from indies & agency girls that i've talked too have said that its been so slow here in Victoria.
Where i work, there's been layoffs recently & i know i haven't been spending as much on pooning or had as much disposable income.
So i guess my question is have you changed your spending habits since 2008, or have you gone back to the same ol same ol?

It's nowhere close to being over.

One way I gauge it is through my work.
I'm pretty good at what I do and have a very good reputation in the industry.
Usually, when the economy is good, I get approached a few times a year by various competitors, asking if I'd be interested in a change of scenery. My employers then find out, I get a few extra bucks on my paycheck, life goes on.

Right now, I'm phoning competitors asking if there's room for me, and they can't fit me on payroll. Revenues are down still.

I think the worst is yet to come. When our neighbors to the south eventually figure out that they have no chance at all to pay for their high-spending lifestyle.

I'm a little insulated, in that i have two jobs, but its a little depressing when friends that you work with get laid off....I tend to agree that the worst is yet to come in terms of interest hikes & less disposable income,we as Canadians haven't done that well either with our personnel debt load & i think that's having a significant impact on the economy.

In my industry I have a good feel for the pulse out there. Aside from the hot spots, like Alberta, I feel the the recession is long from over. Any more increase in interest rates will send the economy into serious turmoil IMO.

Look south to the U.S. - where they are we go, and they are in the deep end just barely keeping their heads above water.

Personally, I would love to get laid off...I would milk it to the max! In fact, I would find two jobs that pay under the table and collect EI...why...because I hate paying taxes to this shithole country!

Also, if SP's don't pay taxes, why the hell should I? It just goes to asshole civil servant pensions...fuck off and die as far as I am concerned!

It's tough to say, overall. The thing is, August tends to be a slower season for a lot of escorts, so the ladies you are talking to could be perceiving a tough economic situation simply because it is slow at the moment. We have to keep in mind that this is when gentlemen are taking their vacations and spending a lot more time with their families. It's the same thing at Christmas.

Even if this job isn't as profitable as it was, say, 10 years ago (which I've heard from other ladies is the case), it's still a very worthwhile and rewarding industry to be in (both financially and otherwise).

In these recessionary times,I've never been more grateful for my Canadian citizenship.
Australia;is the only other country I can think of,which is also enjoying comparable resource-based prosperity.

Englebert Humperdink
Agreed Englebert,

Not trying to make a political speech but our Government has done well to protect our economy in this downturn. I spend a lot of time in the US and they are hurting big time. Some Americans i have spoken with have said they will be in recession for at least a generation. Unfortunately since they are our biggest trading partners, their problems become ours.
Look at Europe, what a mess their economy is in. Living in Alberta, we have likely been affected less than some provinces however we are still posting a deficit. I think we should all be very grateful to live in this country and calling it a s#*thole is disrespectful for a number of reasons. One more thing, i know plenty of SP's who pay taxes. To many it is a business and they treat it that way.

For me personally, I lost my job in 2008 and after a fairly intensive job search, and now employed again in the same industry but making roughly 20% less than I was pre-recession. And that's not factoring in inflation.

No complaints really, as I am grateful to be gainfully employed again, but 20% less is 20% less. 20% off my take home pay means roughly 50% off my discretionary income, and that is the same budget that pooning comes from. I go for a session maybe once every three weeks now compared to once a week like I used to.

Bigger picture, it seems to me like the recession is deep enough to affect almost everyone in the U.S., whereas in Canada the pockets that haven't been touched seem a bit greater. Mind you, we had a somewhat lower standard of living to begin with, so if anything it's just evened things out.

As for SPs, I used to have to call early in a shift to get my desired time with a popular girl at a busy studio. Now it seems I have a pretty good chance if I call an hour before.

During the boom times, SPs in Calgary charged $300/hour. Then they lowered it to $260 during the recession and I don't think that rate has come back yet.

Between 2008 up to now I went on a roller coaster ride....in early to mid 2008 and even into early 2009 I was still making a disgusting amount of money...$4500+ every 2 weeks (for some people this is a pittance and for some it is a windfall)..and then things changed in a hurry (cant go into specifics)which prompted me to tighten my belt and reduce outgoing cash flow....I severly curtailed my visits to Sugarland from 3-4 times a week to once every two weeks.....I also reigned in other spending as well....just about a year ago my situation reversed (cant go into specifics) and I was grinding out $4000+ every 2 weeks again BUT I did not change my spending habits with regards to pooning......I have pissed away 1 oil boom and I wont piss away another LOL....at the same time I have cut out the "whims"....stuff like impulse spending on a carbon sauna/vintage sportscar/expensive golf clubs are a thing of the past....and I still only go to Sugarland twice a month and sometimes once a month......in short I have cut back a great deal and am adding to my warchest...my goal is to have $50,000 in liquid cash by the end of 2011.

These have been my observations over the last year, Most sp's say long weekends, xmas & summer are pretty tough. However one of the girls i've spoken too said that prior to 2008, she could work the weekend & pay for a trip to warmer climates & do some shopping. Three years later she's working a 'regular' job & doing this parttime, simply because she isn't getting the calls that she was when it was booming.
Wise choice in building a nest egg SR & Angie! I've also noticed a significant drop in the reviews of victoria girls which would lead me to believe that things have not picked up just yet.

FYI - I do pay my taxes. I understand that perhaps some escorts do not, but I do, and many that I know do as well.

If the US don't get their financial house in order very soon, this recession will last for a decade. Just like Japan's Lost Decade (1991-2000), when their asset price bubble's collapsed. If the US continues their voracious spending (endless wars, foreign aid to questionable nations, wall street handouts, etc) their will be another Great Depression. Sorry for the dire forecast, the truth hurts sometimes.
