Heres a dumb question. What does everyone do with their loose change. I use to give all my change to my neices and nephews, but as they gotten older they don't want it anymore. It seems that wrapping it is abit of a chore. I have jars full of pennies, dimes, nickles, and quarters. One old peanut butter jar i know holds $150 dollars worth. I have 4 jars. I don't want to roll it i'm to lazy. I looked on the net at buying a sorting machine that will do the job, but the good machines cost way to much and the ones you buy at Office Depot are a piece of junk. I could give it to the needy. Or spend a week in an arcade. Any ideas i would really like to get rid of it. Its spring clean up time and the jars have got to go. As time goes by i'll only accumulate more. --- Kev

Pay someone i use to give it away. I'm thinking about donating it, however there is probably $500 or $600 there.

Safeway has a machine which will count the pennies for you and issue you a receipt. I think the one at Broadway and Commercial (near Skytrain station) has one.

I use the one at the Safeway at Oakridge Centre. I think they are great. There is a small fee (don't recall what it is) that is deducted when it issues you a receipt. It doesn't just count pennies either... will do all coins, even mixed together.

I think it is worth it for pennies, nickels, and dimes.

Note: It will only let you redeem up to $100 per visit.

Still lost in the '60s
There's also a machine at the Safeway on Kingsway at Tyne (between Joyce and Boundary). I think it deducts 3% or 4%.

Maybe all Safeway's have them... not too sure.

You simply take your receipt to the cashier and you get it redeemed.

Change wrappers.

The Loonie dollar stores sell those change wrappers. The Royal Bank used to give free plastic wrappers, but you have to pay for them now.

The Richmond Safeway has those nice professional change machines, but that is for the cashier, it would be awkward to tell her to use it for adding purposes for a customer. The lineup in the express lane would get mad. :)

Hi Kev here are you options:

1)Invest on a coin counting and wrapping machines cost 39.99 at Metrotown store call TVGuide something is near the Toysrus store.

2) go to the bank and deposit it into your account some will not charge you a fee call before going

3) Use it for Birthday or Christmas gifts !!!!

4) Donate it to Charity and collect a dedcutible tax receipt ( they wlll count it for you)

5) Just send it to me I will party with it and write you a review !

Hope this helps

3 ways for ya Kev

1: load up the ash tray in your car and go out and pick up some SW's.

2: Trickle down economics. Stand on the top of a hill (such as parliment) and when your pulling out browns and reds the quarters, nickles, and pennies fall outta your pocket and roll down the hill to the poor.

3: Goto Safeway and use the coin machine. Unfortunately there is a fee for using the machine.

You just missed it
Some Credit Unions have them but they charge something like 8% to 10% to use the maching if you are not a member. I am not sure what the machines at Safeway and Cave-On-Foods (remember that name) charge... I have one of those machines that spins around the coins and storts them but it did not last long. I still use the tubes when I manually sort out the coins.

down here in Texas, one of grocery chains here have self service checkouts where you can use debit/credit cards and/or currency .. I don't keep a lot of change but when I go there, I do the 'cash' option first and dump all my change as the 'first' payment then I can choose 'other form of payment' and pay the reminder with my debit card .. Technology rules

of course, I will be up there in two weeks and I hope to charge as much as possible (although I will need currency for my 1 hr incall with felicia .. so in this case, Vancouver rules!)

Don't banks have a sorting machine?

A few years ago they were complaining about having to mint more coins since everyone keeps a jar nowadays, so they should be happy to get them, especially $600 worth!

Thanx all i took my change to Safeway at Oakridge Mall. The machine at Safeway charges 9.8 percent which is really steep, but i had so much that it was the best choice. The only problem was i couldn't take it all at the same time. I had to go there over three days because they only keep so much cash on hand for this. After deducting the surcharge i ended up with about $536 dollars. Which isn't to shabby. --- Kev
