Ever entered a photography contest? My passion is photography of any and all subjects... I am thinking about entering a photography/local contest and am **NERVOUS** about being critiqued and all that... Feedback?

I have, and my roommate as well. He won in a couple of categories and took home a 5D. I say go for it, you have nothing to lose, and everything to learn.
I have and it was great. You don't really get critiqued though. It's not like the judges give you scores that compare to other photos. Usually just 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Take some photo classes then you will get critiqued but it is how you learn. You get critiqued and so does everyone else. I've taken lots of photo classes and they are lots of fun and you learn a bunch. They make you take photos that you might never think of taking. You learn so much from the other students. Even doing the same assignments. Take a look at VSB as they always photoclasses and they aren't that expensive. With digital cameras there is not excuse for being a good photographer. I learned on an old SLR with film so you had to learn to be good so as not to waste film. Enjoy.
ABSOLUTELY.
I've not entered a photo contest but can really appreciate what goes into a shot. In my many years of working with some of Canada's top Ad Agencies and their respective chosen photographers for Fashion, Food, Still, Sports (NHL & NBA) and so on, it's all about capturing the so called moment shot, composition and probably more importantly, lighting. Go for it and good luck.
