Did anybody see the parasite with a bandana covering his face attempting to light the American flag on fire? What a coward and disgrace to our fine nation. I may not like or agree with GWB, the invasion of Iraq, U.S. trade and foreign policies, and U.S. politics in general, but this type of disrespectful behaviour is way out of line. Protest and speak out against it all you want but how would you feel if someone from another country showed this amount of disrespect to our flag, country, and our leader? Embarrassing.

After initially sharing my opinions on the above issues, I've chosen to ignore all recent related threads as you have the same people saying and arguing over the same shit, over and over and over. Nobody's going to change anyone else’s mind here folks so deal with it. I may not agree with LD or MH etc, and they with me, but at least we collectively don't have anybody wanting to hang, shoot, or incarcerate us for our opinions, thoughts, or
beliefs.

But I do believe that asshole in Halifax deserves a beating.

Remember the uproar here when our flag was ACCIDENTALLY raised upside down at an American sporting event years ago?

Good post, LK. There are nations in the world whose leaders I probably almost hate, but I'd never dream of burning someone else's flag....

It was at a World Series game in the early 90s. The US Marine color guard marched in with the Canadian flag upside down. I doubt it was an accident (likely why you capitalized it). More than likely it was a bad joke that got out of control.

However, the rest of the story is seldom told. That very same US Marine requested permission to march the Canadian flag into SkyDome stadium at the next game. It took a lot of class to go in front of a huge Canadian crowd that was in an uproar. I am not sure it out weighed the lack of class carrying the flag upside down in the first place, but I still think it took class to do.

Hey, LD:

You say that as if the marine had a viable choice. Do you really think it was his free decision to carry the flag at the next game in Canada?

If that story is seldom told, it's because it doesn't matter as much as the initial action. He was probably given a choice - early retirement with no pension, or make good at the next game.
