I was never a Supertramp fan (not old enough), but i respect that song as one that epitomized the 70's sound and it is a great tune.

In case any of you have not heard, Johnny Reznick and the Goo Goo dolls have redone the song. It appeared in fvcking Gap commercials and i think it is going to be on a movie soundtrack.

I do like the Goo Goo dolls and applaud their balls for trying to remake a true classic 70's song, but i was wondering what others thought. Perhaps they have bastardized a classic. I definitely think the Gap thing was fvcking wrong, but i am just one dude in Edmonton on that vote.

Feel free to comment and reminiscence all you old timers about fvcking some hippie at a Supertramp concert in 79 or whenver the song was released.

I don't dislike it, but that's because it really doesn't sound that different from the original.

I like remakes where the artist really takes the original song and gives it a twist ... does it in a different style ... rock to jazz, country to rock ... whatever. This seems way too much like taking a number one hit, redoing it so it sounds almost the same, and getting another hit out of it .... sort of boring and unimaginative!

l hear ya but

i know what you r sayin, but if a borderline (boy) band like the Goo Goo's tried to substantially change a classic like this, then they would get ass-raped by the media because they are after all the Goo Goo dolls and are not going to ever be confused as musical geniuses (i say that and i like them, but for what they are, a good solid pop rock band with some decent lyrics).

i agree if a real musician did a remix then it would be more interesting.

i am surprised that remix whore Puffy did not get his mitts on this masterpiece. maybe Supertramp gave him the buzzer.

Kurrupt, got your chronic right here bro.

holla at the Peg Crew

tom i forgot to add i am glad to hear from someone from Pegland. i read a thread you dudes had about this smaller lounge being dominated by Ed/cal and we don't want u to feel that way.

i know you are lobbying for a Peg lounge, but it took a long time for the Fredmaster to allow this "other" lounge and that was mostly because the Edmonton crew was somewhat feeling how you are now when we had to post in the Van lounge. i still go in the Van lounge once in a while, but there is always someone there that gets in my face immediately and i respond like the educated gangsta i am.

i welcome all the crew from the Peg to this lounge on all threads. it is a more interesting lounge when there is some diversity in people.

good to hear from ya playa. how's the Peg, been along time since i went to that "Bank" bar (converted one) or the one bar that had like 5 levels (that was cool) but that was like 94 when i was last there.

Vh1 update

for those music buffs, the song was released in 1977. the dude in Supertramp who wrote it did so when he was a teenager. somehow (probably a low point in Supertramp finances) Gap used it in 2001-2002 at Christmas and had Shaggy, Dwight Yoakam, and others sing it in commercials.

I don't mind it, but nothing beats the original. Although my favourite album was Breakfast in America, Even in the Quietest Moments had some great tunes as well.

this song is the fan fav

i read an interview with Supertramp and although Logical song was a #1 and is kind of the band's signature song, the group said that in every live show, the fans cheered and screamed loudest for Give a little bit.

movie soundtrack of "Fever Pitch"

the song accompanies the trailer of Fever Pitch a lightweight romantic comedy with Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon. the trailer shows Fallon as the ultimate Red Sox fan as he begins to date Barrymore.

the song appears in the trailer about 1/2 way through and plays until the end of the trailer.

i am not a Jimmy Fallon fan, but he has a fan base. i didn't mind him on SNL, but i don't think he can carry over to movies like Will Ferrell.

Thanks Iceman ... I appreciate it and I'm sure the other Peg perberts do as well.

The peg forum has basically become a sort of lounge anyway ... not a lot of reviews going on. But the discussions tend to just break out within other threads, so its a bit more of a mess and tempers run pretty hot sometimes (or always!).

Nice to have the welcome.

By the way ... I agree with your musical assessment of the goo goo dolls and their ability to take a classic and redo it. At a certain level i just like hearing it on the radio again so its fine that it's pretty much like the original. They do a decent enough job. I felt the same way about Smash Mouth's version of "I'm a believer". Not as good a song as Give a little Bit ... but fun enough and a decent enough remake.

I remember seeing Supertramp at the Ottawa Civic Centre circa 1983 or 84 ... the crowd went wild for Give a Little Bit.

Tom, i think that the "Edmonton" group of posters generally lives and lets live. We have a few loudmouths, namely, Myself, TOfft, FBI (the boy's got some lip, but we cool), Mexman (still owe him for the Jojo the homo joke), Kurrupts got a big mouth :D , and others Joe Kerr, Mikey, etc.

occasionally, i take it upon myself to try to shake newbies down for new information because how else is the board going to continue unless there is new blood flowing with some new recon and reviews.

then edmonton has the nicer dudes and all our female posters: led by captain nicedude: Trawler, the Queen of kindness: Alexandra, Bigstick stays on the nicer side, Jim, Lauren, Sugar, Vienna, Ashley, Gabby, lilith, robyn, emily, Annalise, Muffpuff, Quanna, Goesks (ahem), Beerdrinker, Tommyo, Johngenx, Rightsaidfred, simpletty, notaclue, acc, and just the many more normal guys who don't start shit.

then we have a complete weirdo factor of lurkers/leeches who never post at all.

the thing is in Edmonton, we don't let our petty little scraps escalate into the stuff you see in the big lounge. some dudes there take this place too seriously.

the only time i had a thread deleted was one i responded to in Van lounge with Chuck (now banned for good cause) and E.Humperdink (he took a shot at me, i responded, but the entire thread was vaporized the next morning-a fair call all the way around by the Mods).

i have never complained about anyone here and i hope the Winnipeg dudes post in whichever lounge they want.

later Tommy. REASONABLE PEOPLE CAN DISAGREE REASONABLY.
