Many sounds are also available with audio. The Thai language and its cryptic alphabet can be a challenge for most Westerners. Unlike Mandarin, it has not been properly romanized, creating a lot of confusion for neophytes. The English versions of the sounds vary in spelling from one writer to another, leading to inconsistencies when trying to communicate verbally with the amused but always polite Thais. Glenn Slayden has put in a lot of effort in this labour of love, and has pioneered a logical pronunciation syntax, opening the door to the Kingdom much further than it was previously. Bangkok Thai is the official language taught in schools today. Many provinces however still retain their local patois, but for the record, this website uses the Bangkok variant.
