With the temporary insanity of people hoarding toilet paper and other consumables, comes the question of food storage.
When I was younger in the 70s my parents always had a garden, every year in late summer we would can vegetables and fruits (beans, cherries, peaches,) and freeze strawberries, raspberries, peas and put potatoes and carrots in cold storage (which was just a cement block house in the ground- which stayed the same temperature year round).
Today nobody has gardens, for growing food, simply because space is at a premium in our cities. Nobody cans there own food anymore it seems. But Cities depend on the import of food on a daily basis.
Apartments aren't designed for a food pantry, storage like that would go in the laundry area or some hidden away closet.
Which come to me thinking what do you store for food. What types of food stuff store for 6 months or more? Canned goods- soups, chillis, mushrooms, pasta noodles.
But everything has an expiry date. Can you eat it, if its expired?
MREs --- last long but not very tasty, but there are some freeze-dryed food stuff at Outdoor stores that have shelf lives of 2 year etc.
Living in Victoria and Vancouver how many people have an earth quake kit? Whats in a good earth quake kit?
