Filibustering? Protesting? How about turning the tables on men's reproductive rights to get your point across? In the endless parade of this year's badass women leaders taking a stand, let's talk about the bill that Ohio Senator Nina Turner (D) introduced this spring.

SB 307 would essentially regulate men’s reproductive health in a more invasive way than ever before. The Cleveland Democrat compared the measure to men legislating “a woman’s womb,” which gets into tricky territory, especially when it comes to reproductive health. We know that's not okay, so why would a male equivalent be okay? Senator Turner’s move really has got us seeing role reversal in real time.

SB 307 requires men to see a sex therapist, complete a cardiac stress test, and receive a signed notarized affidavit from their partner confirming impotency—all before getting a prescription for erectile dysfunction drugs.

Once patients take the drugs, they’re required to continually be “tested for heart problems, receive counseling about possible side effects and receive information about ‘pursuing celibacy as a viable lifestyle choice.’” Too much, or just enough to get lawmakers talking?

In all seriousness, Nina Turner is yet another female lawmaker who has fought back against Republicans wrongfully regulating women’s reproductive health. SB 307 is a direct response to efforts working to ban abortions and restrict birth control, and let me tell you, I’m already a big fan of the no non-sense and totally fearless attitude of Senator Turner.

What’s your take on the Ohio bill? I think the bill sounds more beneficial than evasive, albeit slightly bothersome. Then again, I’m not a dude - but we all know speaking for others is what male Republicans do best.

That sounds a lot like two Wrongs make a Right?
I wouldn’t have suspected you believe that.
That's just revenge.

Another example would be a wife cheating on her husband (wrong)
So the husband beats the wife (wrong)

Wrong + Wrong = Right? Not in my world.
I don't think she wants (or expects) that it will pass. But it is a good way to cause people to reflect on how intrusive current laws are.

I get that, sounds like a great reason for a rally and traffic stopping parade.

But to use your position in public office to “Make a point” is simply a waste of tax payers money. I called out a local politician in my area for doing the same thing. Trying to pass a bylaw that was unenforceable. When she knocked on my door before the last election, I gave her an earful and asked for a partial refund on property taxes as she was being paid by me to run a crusade that has nothing to do with her level of office.
I can see your point, and the action of your local politician may have been a total waste of time, but one of the functions of politicians to to engage in debate. I see this more as a visible form of debate tactics than anything else. We have too many laws that originate as party policy, not through informed debate.

There is a bureaucratic expense behind the launching of bills, but if it spurs debate and thought, it is money well spent.
