Fat shaming sucks! As a lifelong skinny person who was a fat person and then went back to a skinny person, I get what "thin privilege" is. Thin people are seen as more in control, more stable, sexier, what-have-you.

I don't think this is the case at all and wonder why people are brainwashed into believing this crap. I've known many skinny people who had addictions other than food who were barely hanging on in terms of mental stability, yet they are immediately placed above the bigger girl for the sake of a bit of extra fat under the skin?

I guess bitterness needs a place to roost. It's unacceptable to hate people for being a different race, gender, religion anymore, so you have to hate something, right?

Why in the world hate someone for eating too much food though (unless it's your food, why do you care)? It just seems like such a shitty reason to be cruel to someone. I'm going to make fun of this person or revile them because they wear bigger pants and really like ice cream. Kind of ridiculous.

If I see a chubby baby or dog I don't hate it. I think it's cute. Same with my plump Nana or those cute little fat snowbirds. Except with me, I think the same with people as well. I'd take a stable and kind fat person over an angry dysfunctional skinny person any day of the week.

We all need to be kinder to one another in general. It's a controversial stance, but one worth taking.

I'm with you 100% .... don't think the guys will be though because this is the place where they seek fantasy rather than reality. I love your thinking about dogs and Nana's ..... I have 6 rescue cats and they are all plump .... when someone points this out to me (as love is blind and I still see them as the emaciated, injured creatures they were when I found them) I get defensive ... I don't see them as plump - and so what if they are ??! .... my Grannie was a big, tall woman of substance until she became very old and sickly, she was 96 when she finally passed. I enjoyed the plump, robust old English Grannie much more ! I always think of these very points while I am at constant war with my own weight issues ... thank you so much for your beautiful mind ! Peace and love !

I am so passionate about this issue . I have spent the better part of 2013 and now forever dedicating every brain cell I have on this topic . I believe when fat is considered a "condition" rather than a lifestyle choice society will be forced to treat large people with the respect they deserve .
It disgusts me when some asshole says to a large woman "wow you certainly take up enough space" he can see the tears running down her face but who cares right ? Shes fat so that must mean she's deaf and dumb too ?

Fat people are forced to live a life being shamed into an early grave . Too ashamed to be seen working out to disgusted with themselves to have close physical relationships , and no matter all of their amazing accomplishments they never feel or are treated as equal because they are thought as stupid and lazy .

Enough is enough I decided I'm going to join the fight to beat and treat obesity and all and I mean all its prejudices . I may be dreaming big again..... Lol but this passion has stuck with me . When I heard a coach yell at a 19 year girl for going off her eating plan and when I saw her tears I knew right then what the fuck was going on and my life was changed forever . I support fat people who want treatment , and I support them when they give up because I get it trust me I really get it . Encouragement is the greatest motivator . See it believe it achieve it . Impossible is nothing ! Live your life as a champion !

Your courage inspires me on the daileeeeeeeeeey

Life is good !

How can you be fat or obese with so many starving and hungry people in the world and think it's ok?

Personally it makes me sick how our society has made being fat or obese ok when there are literally almost a billion people going hungry every night.

"The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that nearly 870 million people of the 7.1 billion people in the world, or one in eight, are suffering from chronic undernourishment in 2010-2012"

If you are fat or obese then yes you should be ashamed of yourself.

That is as enlightening as the "Finish your dinner...there are starving kinds in [Biafra/Bangladesh, fill in the blank] that would love to have that!" that I am sure many of us heard as kids. You are aware, right, that our uneaten unused foods don't automatically go to feed the hungry? You are also unaware, I guess, that human nature is complicated and that we don't necessarily act easily in a way that is good for us?

Congratulations on your healthy eating habits, and for being able to show so much compassion. I guess we will all just go on shaming anyone who doesn't live up to our personal standards. In fact, I think I will go one step further and finally get that pistol for the next asshole that talks or uses their phone during a movie.

What are you talking about ..... should you feel ashamed that you have a roof over your head and a vehicle to drive when there are people who don't ? Get real

So? Should I feel bad about having a car because many people around the world can't afford cars? Or should I feel bad about having a house when there are so many homeless people?

A fat person isn't directly taking food out of a starving child's mouth by eating a cheeseburger with extra bacon instead of a salad, which is what this is about a lot of the time. It's food choices, not food quantities. In fact, eating tons of cheap processed food with lots of carb-rich fillers is easier to produce and cheaper to transport, and better for the environment on average than, say a paleo diet with lots of imported fruit veg and meats that need to be kept fresh.

Plus, if a fat person dies sooner on average, they are less of a burden on society by not being dependent as long when they are old.

So what's your issue with fat people, really? How is being fat not okay anyways? The one inalienable right each individual has is the right over his or her own body. If this is gone, it's all gone. This is why prohibition doesn't work, making prostitution illegal doesn't work, and making certain types of food illegal wouldn't work.

It is essential for all people to have the right to choose what they do with their own bodies so long as it doesn't interfere with anyone else. Another person being fat does nothing to hurt me. Just makes them nicer to hug.

I sincerely hope you're not so dim as to believe that if that 'fatty' doesn't eat the sandwich it will miraculously appear in the hands of a starving Ethiopian child.

If you feel so strongly about world hunger, how about you actually donate some money to a charity or some canned good to a Food Bank instead of fat shaming or worrying what other people do with their bodies.

How dare you waste precious words on this stupidity when there's so many people in the world without the access to learn English?

This is a difficult subject for me to chime in on but when has that ever stopped anyone from opening their mouth and inserting their foot? Let's get it out there first off, I am fat. I am not just fat, I am obese, and increasingly I find that I'm not alone in this, which worries me about the upcoming generation. I really do think that it's one thing for an adult to decide to let themselves expand, another for us to push these habits on our children because we don't want to deal with them.

Now, unlike some people who may be suffering from difficulties in their genetic make-up that precludes them from efficiently losing weight I am fat because I am lazy. I know what is required to bring my weight under control, (proper diet, exercise, less time on the internet), however I do not actively pursue it. Does this mean I should be made a mockery of? No it doesn't.

Personally, I accept and own up to who I am physically. I also believe that individuals with poor physical development due to choices should have to pay increased health benefits, much like smokers should. The fact that obese people are more likely to develop health concerns which tax our publicly funded system is not fair to those who make strenuous efforts to maintain a healthy living. After all, for many of us it's a lifestyle choice rather than a forced situation.

I do not however think that just because you choose to enjoy your 5 km jog each day that you have the right to make another human being feel like crap for choosing to live how they enjoy living. We as a society tend to look down on others for mocking people due to their political, religious, or sexual lifestyle choices, why is it still acceptable to poke fun at someone's health choices?

My mother was I guess she would be morbidly obese,

She had a lot of issues, part of it was body type, and then a thyroid condition on top of it.

She never did herself any favors, to be honest, but she had a lot stacked against her as well.

I never really understood, all she had against, her, until I felt the pain of arthritis creep into my body. Yep she had that to.

It is tough for some people it really is tough.

I agree, its not the place your going to get much sympathy, we pay for looks and a fantasy,

I actually saw a big beautiful women in this for a while, she got a rough ride, from the guys,

I wrote several reviews of her, kind but accurate,,
some guys actually gave me shit for seeing her and writing reviews they called her sub standard sp or something,

I would still see her today, to be honest from time to time, I like some things me and her did,

I told her once she was beautiful, she just stopped and looked at me, no one ever told her that before, or for along time anyway,

I agree, people can be so cruel. devastatingly cruel.

You know but there is something to that,
you don't waste your time with some one who is just a pretender,

I see what you are saying about the added cost to healthcare but then the people who are running those 5 km jog and get shin splints or the like should have to pay for their health care costs and the type A person who gives himself a heart attack ... you see where this is headed. We are all in this together ... I like how we are starting to see that the sedentary lifestyles people live are not helping any of us and all these ads where they are telling parents to get their kids outdoors for an hour of play a day are all working towards a very good goal. Smoking isn't allowed anywhere anymore because it's so unhealthy, fast food is offering better choices, exercise is encouraged ... I think the pendulum is swinging back in the proper direction.

obesity is not a lifestyle choice its a well known and documented medical disorder. The conditions often mimics other addiction disorders. it is natural for an obese person to use their drug food and not move their body mainly due to extreme resistance . Until people see this disorder for what it is and not a lifestyle choice we will be forced to take care of their every need as they succumb to their sickness. If we don't get educated its lights out for our loved ones who deserve to have a better outcome especially because the treatments are working for people.

Everyday I am privledged to go through this process with people. I know the truth about the causes of obesity and could care less what a few ignorant people think. they mean absolutely nothing to me any day or anytime unless they speak out in hate i could care less. Food addiction and binge eating is a disorder . look it up .
