Extortion scam advice?
Is there anything one can do if they're being extorted?....provider had me txt pics and intentions then reverse looked up the cell phone number and threatened to send all the screen shots to my family members unless I sent a direct deposit....Beware! Now, having sent $$ they say they've deleted everything but I'm sure they'll hang this over my head again, so I'm guessing my life is over as I'm not paying any more.
They also stated that it's just prepaid for an appt. supposed to be this week and they want me to txt the night before to arrange a time....They said that they're not trying to rip me off but do provide a service which they insist on providing....the way this looks to me is that if I go, then they lose all aspects of extortion and then will be free to blackmail me further, but if I decline then I haven't had any kind of service that they can claim that I've received. Dos this make any sense?

Really? I'm in Nanaimo btw....and the area code from the contact's phone was from Ontario and then in another txt, it was a Quebec one so I don't even know for sure if they're in town....also BP ad is no longer there

I'm not very tech-savvy, so perhaps you can enlighten me - how were they going to send pictures to your family members if they don't have their email addresses nor cell phone #s ?

They pulled up both mine and my wife's FB profiles and could message her that way

WOW, never use your common phone number. I don't book with girls that don't use email.

Number one, name them and allow the rest of the board to avoid this scam.

Number two, the police. There's nothing PERB or it's members can do for you. Keeping your pooning world and real world separate is basic stuff, I would urge all members to use some basic precautions.

OK...I can't even remember the name they used and the ad has been removed...I reported it to the police who got back to me...they said that the phone numbers are for legit landlines in Ontario and Quebec but that they just randomly used them in their app to show up on my phone so they're untraceable...they just said to not respond or block any more communication with them and said that 99% chance I won't hear from them again. My concern is that they do in fact have the screen shots and could just send them at any time...my own stupidity I guess.

Does anyone remember the story a guy told about his friend that had an outcall to his family home while his wife and kids were away. The escort and her boyfriend robbed, threatened and extorted the man until he ....killed himself.
Sad but so possible. If anyone can send me the link...thank you in advance.

Here are some ideas:

1. The money you sent can be traced to a bank account it was deposited to. Police can technically trace this for you via the bank since they attempted extortion / blackmail already.
2. Posting this thread on here for the public (and possibly them) to see before your appointment, was not the best timing with the risk of them now going into hiding, police will have caught them if in fact they will give you an address and time to show up for this supposed appointment, in my personal opinion at least.
3. Obviously outing them now is good for the rest of us since the cat is out of the hat already.
4. If you are doing stuff such as going behind a wife to see other women, maybe using your real number, or connecting your number to your social profiles is not the wisest idea for the future.

@the Meat Market!!!lol
so....my advice is always the same for extortion.... i agree with everyone about taking some precautions and reporting to police....

but to lessen the impact of any potential "outing" or contacting of your family....

you should tell them first.....if you tell your family that you clicked a porn link and/ or some random person contacted you.....if you tell them some crazy person tried to extort you and is threatening you saying all kinds of crazy things.....then if someone does contact them and say things....they "hear" the information in a different way....if they are not warned....then they hear "sex buyer" or whatever other thing they are threatening to say when they are told ......if you have told them you are being threatened by a crazy person who is trying to extort you for money and who is lying.....then your family "hears" a crazy person who is trying to extort you and lying.....

so, if you are worried about it actually being told to your family....tell your family first....then when they hear from these idiots cowards....they know it's a criminal and that nothing they say is true....

does that make sense?

sorry this is happening to you....

Thank you for your remarks, but the screen caps are totally incriminating towards me and I don't see any side stepping to make it look any better if they are ever sent. I just hope the RCMP officer is correct in stating that he believed that 99% chance I won't ever hear from them again and not to respond to any further contact if they try to. I just have to hope they can't be bothered to make matters worse for me just for kicks or something.

I'm a little busy now but tomorrow I'll pm you with a fucktard young ladies email that was trying the same thing with me....from another site BTW.
I saw her tracks right off......and she figured I was the prey.
Sorry sweetheart it didn't work out your way.
I'm also sorry this is happening to you.....sit back, take a long breath, and think about what has happened, and what they've done so far......protect yourself, and they nucleus you have at the moment.
Things are not as bad as they seem....all accounts , and personal info can be cancelled easier than they can be manipulated by an outside predator.....and predators always think they are smarter, and superior, there is the weakness.
They always leave a trail to follow, and are somewhat predictable in their nature.
