This morning on my way to work I saw that I received an email from a micro I had visited before. No big deal I thought, as this one micro doesnt advertise in places like ERSList or BP. With a bit of time on my hands I opened the email wondering what they were going to advertise in this email.

On opening the email, two things caught my attention.

  1. First that the person who sent out the email didnt use Bcc and I received the entire list of email to whom the email was address to.
  2. The number of personal emails that people had used to sign up for/used to contact this place. Lots of real looking email addresses and full names.
I scrolled through and read the names to see if i recognized anyone. At first I was surprised that so many people were using their real names and or emails. I couldn't think of any reason why someone wouldn't create an email account for this hobby.

I know that some people would start grabbing their pitchforks and start asking for a boycott for such a mistake. Personally, I just chalk it up to human error, and do think that they wouldn't of done it purposely. Since I am not exposed like some of the other recipients on the mailing list.

In the end I didn't get around to actually reading the email, as the names caught my attention more than then girls they were advertising.

I always wondered how many people used their real information when booking, I am guessing that quite a few do - judging by this email.

How would you react if your email had been part of this mishap?

What steps have you taken to keep such information private? (phone #/email)

I got the same email... my thoughts exactly. Thank goodness I use a pseudonym. I let them know that it was unwise to send out an email like that without using BCC

Personally I don't use the a real sounding name, just a pseudonym. Haven't had any issues booking with it, so I don't think that having a real sounding name makes a difference.

I use a dedicated email address that I don't use for anything else. There's nothing connecting it to my real name. It's so easy to create a mail account on GMail, or any other service – there shouldn't be any reason not to.

I definitely would not be pleased at having my email in that situation, even if it's my hobby email. I never like it when people send group emails and don't use BCC for all the addresses, unless it's just to a group of friends, where everyone knows each other well enough. The problem is that a lot of people don't know that BCC exists, nor what it's for...

I use a Hotmail account for setting up appointments which so far has worked out well for me.

One SP sent me an invite via GMail and low and behold it responded with my Gmail account that has my real name in it. Killed that email and responded back to her via hotmail stating I will see you on such and such a date at such and such time. Google was giving up too much of my personal information for my liking.

Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
This happened a while back here in WPG. A very popular touring lady sent out an e-mail informing us she was coming to town.
It wasn't a problem for me because I use an e-mail addy for pooning, that bears absolutely no resemblance to my real identity.
I too was amazed/shocked how many guys use work or personal emails that identify them quite obviously.
Luck for them because if someone lets say a newspaper got the list and published it, there would have definitely been some fallout.:fear:

Cheers

I have always had an account I have used for the hobby. I only identify myself by my first name and last initial. If I call it is likely the whole thing pops up on their call display but with 95% of the ladies I see, the initial method of contact is always e mail.

Probably many users don't realize that many internet service providers allow multiple addresses. Like Shaw allows up to 10 email addresses with a account. so pretty easy to add or even delete an old address and get rid of it.

what is surprising though is that this micro sent out such an email. I have a legitimate Massage facility in fort McMurray hell for doing the same thing. they violated privacy rights by letting it be known that I went there for a medical purposes by using email and not using the bcc facility. I got an apology on this, but too late. No damage done, it was a legit massage place with RMT's but still in terrible taste to do that.

Speaking of that, have you ever done a search on a phone number in google. Like put in your favourite Sp's phone number in quotation marks, such as "xxx xxx xxxx" and you would be surprised at how far back the history of that phone goes, I found records back to 2006 on one person.

Hushmail is the best I think

"Hushmail looks and feels just like any other web-mail site, but adds strong encryption to your emails to protect your secrets from prying eyes."
