So I downloaded something and burned it to a DVD. I tried to play it on my Dvd
player and I got an error message saying I could not play it.

Yet it works just fine when I play it on my computer.

Is it possible to break the region codes on DVds?

Could be the type of DVDs you are burning with... Some dvd player only reads certain DVDs

Breaking region codes is an easy thing on PCs. Use something like DVD + CSS Free.

Using a tool like this, you can then burn the DVD without region encoding.

Breaking region codes on Set-top DVD players is tougher. Do a search for your brand and model of DVD player and see if there is a hack available. Some players allow you to enter a service mode and deactivate the region settings.

I was able to do this with my player. Was quite an easy thing.

Your burning software may also have an adjustment in the menu to select the regional code for the output --- NTSC (or something like that) for North America, and PAI for British. VSO software has a setting for that.

region codes are not the problem.. its either your burning software/program or your dvd player is old/cheap

try downloading some different software and burn it again
