You can buy a Daewoo DVD model DVD S 151 player from London Drugs for about $60. It will play PAL or NTSC DVDs'. Software usually costs more than that.

You can use DVD Region Free.

Then simply use any recording app (Nero, etc) to record it to a new DVD. It'll be completely region free.

This program is wicked...got it going...thanx a bunch man!

If it's your third DVD and thay have all had the same sound problems, the issue could be the connections (cables) or maybe the speakers. Maybe take the dvd player over to a friend's place and try it out with different wires and speakers (which could be part of a TV) and see if the problem still exists. Bring your old cables along too and that may help narrow the problem.

pokemon has some good advice. You might want to also consider something that will filter your AC line noise which could also be a reason for your background noise. Something like this...
