Cupping?

Very difficult to decide where to place this. But, since it is a request for massage related information this is as good a place as any.

A few months ago I ran across an SP in the Bay Area who had just experienced this but her English skills were worse than my Cantonese, so I got nothing out of her (well, almost nothing).

When she removed her top I was horrified to see these circular red marks, about 3 inches in diameter, all over her back. My first thought was that she had been tortured at some point in her life.

A little research told me that she had had a cupping procedure and that the marks last about a week. I felt very good for her when I learned this.

So here is my 411. Anybody ever experience this, and if so, is it a procedure available in the Vacouver area? Who does it or where is it done--by a accupunturist? Anybody care to share experiences regarding the pain (there must be some) and resulting benefits.
Believe me, it was not a pretty sight to see when I saw the marks.

a couple quick google searches, and I found www.acutherapy.net

it's in vancouver, and they do cupping as well as other acutherapy techniques. I think I might look into it myself.

There is an acupuncturist on North Rd at the Korean Centre, Dr Lee if I remember correctly, he does great work. Also like most other things cupping is going Hi Tek. A suction pump is used in most schools instead of the candle. Oh and usually small incisions are made before the cup is put in place to let the blood flow. Sounds terrible but really helped with some back pain I was going thru. And yes the welts do last about a week.

And I bet you think acupuncture just puts tiny holes in your body!

You can buy the pussy pump at the local video chain stores (formerly AOV video stores). They are in their toy section.
For what it's worth, they do have a very pleasant environment for couple shopping and their toys etc are stocked with creative items and presented without the Peep-Show mentality.

Glass Domes

My massage gal at Rose's in Clearbrook had these circles on her lower back and around on her mid-rif last year. Her English was poor so it took a while to figure out that it was part of some Eastern healing therapy. She went out and got one of the glass domes and showed me. Whatever, looks like a modern day version of the leaches they used to use to heal you.

At first I too, thought it was some kind of torture or branding mark.

No similarity at all.
Leeches were used to suck blood out of the patient.
Cupping brings added blood to the desired areas, but does not remove it from the body.

one thing to be aware of...

I had a friend that was going through accupuncture school and so she had this cupping gear. So being a good friend I let her stick me with needles and do the cupping so I've experienced this a few times...

One point to note about the cupping though, if you're gonna go and have it done, and you have fairly thin skin then be prepared for the cupping to be able to draw the blood out right through your skin. As apparently w/other friends this has happened. Just sth I thought y'all might want to know.
