cool web search virus

A friend of mine has got the cool web search virus. It changes your home page to about:blank and causes popups to occur constantly. He runs Norton but it doesn't detect it or remove it. He has tried stinger programs and they don't find it either. Does anyone out there know how to remove it, aside from wiping his hard drive?

Trojan

Hi edmontonexplore, i haven't heard of that virus, did he try a trojan buster, you can usually download one free of the net. I'm not a computer expert at all, but it's my understanding that trojan viruses are usually not detected by antivirus software such as Norton. Correct me if I'm wrong

Might be a new variant that Norton doesn't know about yet (assuming Norton is set up to detect it)
