Hi all

I saw a news story from the CBC website that I thought you may be interested in.

It is a story about research around condom use and it gives details about common errors when using condoms.

Some common problems they found were;

- People unrolling the condom before putting it on.
- Not leaving a space at the tip of the condom for the semen

Here is a link to the story.

Here is another link for information on how to put on a condom.

I've heard that there are people out there who wear condoms for too long a period of time.
Is this an urban myth or do you have some insight?
I like to switch to a new one after 30 minutes just to be on the safe side.

Hi HeatherMorgan

Yes I believe it is possible to stress a condom by wearing it for too long. It really depends on the type of sex and how long it goes for.

Condoms offer great protection but are just a thin layer of latex. If the condom is stressed too much the chances of it breaking will increase.

I have spoken with people in the past who have had problems with condoms breaking from penetrative sex that lasted a long time, when the lube dried up or in some situations a man’s erection went down and then back up which I guess resulted in a poor condom fit.

If in doubt you could add more lube or replace the condom.
