I have some how have reasigned the Caps Lock key to open my home page.

I know it has something to do with the key having two functions so how the heck do i reasign it back to the Caps Lock function? Microsofts web site was useless.

I have reinstalled the software to no avail. I ran a virus scan just for the hell of it. I tried to reassign the key to no avail. I tried to edit the key to no avail. Would uninstalling the software and reinstalling the software fix the problem? I'm stumped.

I am using a Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro and have the latest drivers installed. Any help would be appreciated. --- Kev

Thats not it VM, but thanks. I should say that my home page only opens when i am at my desk top. If i have a webpage already open then the Left Search page opens up. Also why does my Num Lock key open Music Match. Something fishy going on. --- Kev

Mother of Gawd, many of us out here know how to turn the damn computer on and that is it. I join HFS in invoking the deity and immediate family.

Some of you dudes on this board are truly scary.

Try a system restore to before you f'ed it all up. Check for a "restore to defaults" option in your KB software. Try unistalling the software and see if it resets the CAPS LOCK button back to being the CAPS LOCK button.

Well thanx everyone....

I just uninstalled the software for the keyboard and went into Device Manager to delete the keyboard and then reinstalled everything that didn't help.

So what i have now is.........my Caps Lock Key opens the search page..............my Num Lock key opens Musicmatch............my ALT Key opens the Calculator.

I also see that my Auto-Protect in my Anti Virus was not Enabled. So i think i pick up a virus from some site that changed the key functions.

Anyway don't let me disturb you all from whatever this thread has morphed into. I have a problem to fix. --- Kev

There are a few viruses that do this but they are usually prwetty hard to get, they tend to be boot system viruses...

Best thing to do is make an Antivirus boot disk and boot and scan the PC with that....

This may sound silly, but try cleaning the keyboard - even turning it upside down and shaking it may loosen any staples or other items that don't belong. Keyboards are, after all, just a set of switches. Also, if you are like me and have or have access to other different (usually older) keyboards, try one of them as a replacement. If the problem goes away, then the problem is either mechanical, or it originates in the software/drivers. Finally, are you using any other software that is keyboard shortcut intensive? I use some dictation software that makes use of customized key assignments, but interracts strangely with the key assignments for other programs (such as WordPerfect).

If any of these suggestions work, just post again (in these circumstances, I would suggest in All Caps)
