As part of Craigslist's agreement with attorneys general around the country, anyone who posts an "erotic services" ad will be required to provide a working phone number and pay a fee with a valid credit card. The Web site will provide that information to law enforcement if subpoenaed.

Any thoughts as to whether or not Canada might start following suit?

They might be uptight but we aren't exactly the most laid back people either. I wouldn't be surprised to see CL introduce the same system in Canada as well if for no other reason than that they will make money out of it. I think they are charging 5 bucks for the providers to place an ad now unless I heard wrong.

My beef in general is that the government should not be telling us whether or not we pay for sex or not. While they may look the other way here, it doesn't completely remove the stigma attached to the illegality of it all. Instead of turning the other way, the government should be taxing providers and allowing us hobbyists to write off our hobbying expenses for therapeutic purposes! So many other countries in the world profit from prostitution and Brazil even has a program in place which advises prostitutes on how they can make more money.
