Don't think he realizes that when you have Clermont and Simon as receivers, they can make ANY quarterback look good.

this is an excellent signing with minimal downside and a huge upside...

hopefully he gets a little more respect this time around...

still can't believe that he was benched for the 2004 Grey Cup game after winning outstanding player of the year award by Wally "Brain Fart" Buono...

I agree. I also hope he gives a little more too, such as respecting the decisions of a coach who has won more games than any other in the entire league.

There are those who believe that a starter should not lose his job because of injury, only poor performance. I understand this was an unusual situation due to having two #1 guys but...

by Wally "Brain Fart" Buono...
Interesting. And what do you call then, the coaches who win half a dozen games, get fired and then move onto their career of flipping burgers (or whatever they do because they can not win). Would they be the geniuses?

Wally Buono has been a chronic post-season underachiever...

he has consistently demonstrated an inability to prepare his teams for the biggest games in the post-season...

I respect him as a man, but he couldn't hold a candle to Hugh Campbell as a football administrator...

check out his regular season/post-season record...

keep in mind also, this is a league where winning just two post season games can get you a Grey Cup...

I agree with you that he does not have the same level of success in the playoffs but I do not feel it is the coaches responsibility to motivate players, playing in perhaps the biggest games of their lives so far. A coaches job leading up to the game is to game plan and make decisions during the game.

I agree, again, that Hugh Campbell was the best if you include winning championships but you named ONE guy ahead of Buono so by my math, that makes him second, out of how many guys that have ever coached in this game? In fact, I'll even give you Don Matthews too, so that makes Buono third all time ahead of a whole whack of others. Many do not even make it to the playoffs as often as he has and if you don't make it, you have not even a chance of winning it all.

I agree. There is very little risk to the Lions by putting him on the practice roster, he's only going to make $400.00 a week, and they will get a chance to see if he can still play. Our two regular quarterback's spend more time in the trainer's room, then they do on the field, and we would be throwing the season away if we went to our 3rd and 4th string QB's. So it's really a no brainer for Wally.

The only down side is that Printers was very immature and arrogant when he played here last, but he is only 28 years old, and I am sure he has been humbled by the fact that his career is virtually in the toilet.

I never had a problem with starting Dickenson in the 2004 Grey Cup, what I had a problem with was not putting Printers in for the second half.

I believe that the 5 straight Grey Cups won by Edmonton in the 70's was one of the greatest achievements in sports history. Every team is gunning for you, week after week, so to be able to win the championship consistently for that many years is a major accomplishment. Hugh Campbell was by far the best motivational coach in CFL history, he just never coached long enough to get the record for wins.

Have any sports fan ever seen a team get so decimated at one position as the B.C. Lions have at quarterback in recent years? This year in particular is unreal, looks like Wally Buono made a great move by keeping Printers around, and what a great story it would be if he could lead them to the Grey Cup.

Casey Printers handed mandate to lead Lions

It looks like Printers will be the number 1 guy this year and Buck Pierce is out.

Casey Printers handed mandate to lead Lions
Buono gives QB comforting extension
By Lowell Ullrich, The Province
March 9, 2010

QB Casey Printers has signed a new deal that makes him the undisputed leader of 2010 Lions.Photograph by: Wayne Leidenfrost, PNG file, The ProvinceCasey Printers was at an airport in Phoenix Sunday afternoon feeling a lot more comfortable about his direction as a CFL quarterback than he did under a similar circumstance nearly three years ago.

Printers travelled from his home near Houston and landed in Vancouver Sunday evening as the undisputed leader of the B.C. Lions offence, having agreed to terms late Saturday on a contract extension that will give the CFL team clarity that would have seemed unfathomable eight months ago.

The club announced the agreement Sunday and will hold a news conference to discuss the deal at the team's Surrey training facility this morning.

It was a much different scenario than one which faced the 28-year-old quarterback nearly three seasons ago.

A beneficiary of a bidding war which involved the Montreal Alouettes, Printers flew from Houston bound for Burlington, Vt. But the Als returned without their prize when a contract agreement had been reached in mid-flight instead with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who had staffers waiting to pick up Printers in Buffalo.

The deal he signed with Hamilton was worth considerably more than the one which will keep him with the Lions at minimum through the 2011 season, which should pay him close to the $300,000 range annually similar to other starters around the league.

Printers' career path might have been up in the air at that point. It isn't any longer.

"The whole Hamilton thing ws a blur. I had just been released [from the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs]. I was frustrated and I didn't have the right mindset," Printers recalled Sunday.

"What makes me comfortable now is that we have the right organization, starting from the top."

Lions coach/GM Wally Buono began reshaping his stable of quarterbacks by bringing Printers to Vancouver a few weeks ago for a routine physical, following that up with a checkup on Jarious Jackson, who underwent off-season arthroscopic shoulder surgery.

Buono became convinced last fall that Printers was a different quarterback than the one who left after the 2005 season, signing him to a pro-rated deal worth just over $70,000 and activating him within two weeks with the Lions out of options involving established pivots.

But as general manager, Buono also realized the quarterback can do more than run his offence.

"He showed last season he can excite a team, and he can excite a city," Buono said Sunday from Nanaimo, where he attended a fundraiser for the Vancouver Island Raiders junior champions.

The coach was in Edmonton last week, where he had no luck dealing any of the other four quarterbacks on the roster. Buck Pierce is likely still the odd-man out, with a roster bonus due at the end of the week. A decision could be finalized before Lions coaches head to Toronto this weekend and the CFL evaluation camp of Canadian college draft-eligible prospects.

That trip will be much easier knowing they have the offensive leader they desire in their flight plans. Same goes for Printers. "Yeah, I can take a little sigh of relief now," he said.
