I was down in October and rented with Dollar. Part of an Expedia package so can't really compare to daily rates.
There's a free shuttle from McCarran (in front of the terminal) to the huge car rental complex out on Gillespie, about 10 minutes away.
If you're mostly on the strip, I'd go with the Deuce (bus) but for anything else (Red Rocks, Hoover Dam) rent a car. Or helicopter.

Just use expedia or whatever. Take the free shuttle bus from the airport. Its a fun city to drive around, other than the strip traffic is pretty light. Parking is easy and free almost everywhere, with valet by tip at all the resorts.

I rent a car every time I go, even pay a bit more for a convertible :eyebrows:
Use Hotwire or carrentals.com
If you have a solid credit card insurance or icbc coverage for driving in the US you can reject any up-sell at the counter.
Also consider bringing your GPS.

Enjoy!
