With a judge's consent, Police are wanting the passwords to all our digital devices.

With C51 in effect and many Canadians wanting it reversed, the Police Chiefs want to go further and push for access to citizens phones, tablets, computers etc. Granted it's targeted at "criminals" but as with C51 it is wide spread and a drift net approach to fighting crime.

This Chiefs of Police gang are getting right out of hand.

Cops as a rule should not be lobbying for any kind of laws, period. They are supposed to be impartial and objective. They enforce the law, not write it. The reports they produce and their media spin doctoring are insanely biased and narrow minded.

Question: Has anyone EVER heard of a police chief saying they have too much power? Of course not.

If Police Chiefs and Judges want to lobby for such legislative changes, maybe we should too; By making it so we can elect them. If we brought stuff like that up, they'd probably back down.

Good luck getting any kind of law like that.

Supreme Court has already ruled that internet anonymity is a right. Any law would have to be pretty specific, and justified, to not be challenged.

Much like wire taps to invade criminal's privacy, I think the bar will be pretty high for this.
