I haven't been on PERB for a long time but as a relatively intelligent individual i'm still struggling to figure out what some of the acronyms/ingroup terms mean. Additionally, i've noticed a lot of "how do i..." posts on here with replies that cover the same ground about how to avoid getting scammed, general protection of one's self, etc.
What if we stickied a thread where we put up a beginner's guide to PERBing/soliciting escorts?
we could make this activity more accessible to outsiders unable to pierce the veil of our lingo and often-unstated customs.
More demand will presumably drive up prices in the short term. In the long(er) term, perhaps this occupation will be seen as more viable/ economically rewarding than it might currently seem, paired with a presumably larger user base on PERB verifying SPs and vice versa (i notice SPs will post warnings for unpleasant or dangerous clients here. Very beneficial for all of us). Then, more pickings for everyone and everyone is happy
(in some undetermined phase of this neat theoretical model, new entrants on the supply side drive prices down, relatively speaking)
For SPs, this can be a way for you to collectively indicate what is acceptable behavior prior to, during, and after an encounter with a client. After browsing some of the warning threads I can appreciate much more fully SPs taking the kinds of precautions they do and doing whatever else they can to protect themselves in this line of work. This thread could presumably act as a first line of defense for those who end up reading it. It's impossible for me to predict how wide an audience such a thread might reach, but at the very least it could serve as a gentle reminder for this community of appropriate conduct, making for a more enjoyable experience on all sides.
PERBers: it's obvious that our hobby attracts some unsavoury characters who are ultimately compromising the scene for sincere enthusiasts. This additional line of defense might help keep genuine novices from making simple mistakes that might sully or even ruin an otherwise awesome experience.
I'd love to hear what people have to say about this. And if someone happens to redirct me to an existing thread that accomplishes these very goals, i'll quietly go back to enjoying my hobby :eyebrows:
