Oh well...I think we're trying to determine what happened after he was able to 'connect'. So that, if the report stirs up enough interest, we can also 'connect'.

Anyways, if it doesn't make sense let's leave it at that.

I think it's fairly safe to assume that he meant "tried, but did NOT connect", and simply forgot the "not" as a simple typo. His sentence, and lack of further details make more sense this way, no?
