Anyone still think the guy is worth $28 Mil US? Lazy, lazy lazy. Gretzky used to get criticized for lipping off, but at least he was a consistent scorer and guys were trying to stop him. Bertuzzi yaps at the refs even when he's done something blatant.

Slump after the contract.

So many players seem to slump after signing the big contract: Jagr, Yashin, Eric Lindros, JS Giguere, Jose Theodore (last year).

Bertuzzi is on a pace for 20 goals. That's now a $7 million player in today's NHL. I'll bet Sonny Burnett could get that many playing with Naslund AND tell opponents to fuck off better than TB. Power Forward - what the hell is that anyway? It's a relatively new term that simply refers to an over-sized player who's supposed to go to the net. Pretty much what every other forward is told. Bertuzzi's main skill seems to be standing in front of goalies - not that easy to do, but hardly making him the super star they think he is. And by-the-way - enough is enough. The Sedins are not working out. Move em both.
Over to you, Kev.

sedins

Could be we waited too long on that one. Who would tyou trade them to and who would you get for one or both. Not very much right now. They have to pick up their game. Maybe start talking to Matt Cook to find out how to stick your nose in the play instead of allowing the opposition to perpetually steer you to the outside.
Do they ever come down the wing and break to centre? Do they ever try a crisscross at the blue line?

............we can justifiably bitch about Bertuzzi, the Sedins, and whomever.
We can say lets make a trade.
Gentlemen there is no need to trade anyone. (Ok we could sign Forsberg, Sakic, Weight, Palffy, and all the rest of the great ones but there not available) Remember having elite players on your team doesn't mean squat. Look at the Rangers there a joke.

Look how far Minnisota went last year with the team they had....granted they play the trap to a tee, but they played well with only Graborik as there star player.

Canucks have some very talented players that can get the job done. I feel the problem is more getting the players to gel together, than getting new players. Theres more work for the coaching staff to do, than anything. Last year it wasn't until after Christmas that the team started to play like they can. Lets hope thats it repeats itself this year.

After we thump Chicago this evening we will only be 2 points behind TO who is first over all. 2 points gentlemen is fuck all with all the games still to be played. Happy New Year. --- Kev

I almost forgot Power Forward.

I think the term was taken from the NBA, which describes someone driving to the hoop. The idea is the same, drive to the hoop drive to the net. Its a new label, but the principle has always been there. "HOWEVER" in minor hockey there are now clinics that better teach this principle to our minor youth.

We hear all the time 'drive to the net, drive to the net,' but if you play the game even at a amature level its easier to say than to do. New kids learning the game are actually taught how to play this position. There is not to many players that can play this position effectively because size does matter as well as strength.

Find your faults with BT but he is one of the best at 265 pounds with gear, and i think hes going to get better.......if the injury bug stays away.

---------------

Good old 'tuzzi came through as i new he would. Hes worth what hes paid, in comparison to other players in the NHL.

Speculation, hearsay, hindsight, what if, and lets suppose is not reality, Vancouver is only 2 points behind the Leafs. (Who are first over all) This is the best season Vancouver has had at this time of year "EVER," and if they can get a little of the glory that they had last season........there smokin. --- Kev

Personally I think some people are being too hard on Bertuzzi. Admittedly he isn't as consistent as he could be, but he brings a lot more to the table than just scoring and getting rid of him would be an idiotic move. The guy is +19 in +/- so obviously a lot of goals are going in the net when he is on the ice even if he isn't the one scoring them. Having a player that attracts that much defensive coverage makes it a lot easier on his teammates. Take Bertuzzi out of the lineup and Naslund would be smothered by the defensive coverage he would face.

Bertuzzi is also a streaky player so even though he is only on pace for about 23 goals for the season right now, I wouldn't be suprised if he kicked it into high gear and scored 20-25 in the second half alone.

He is a decent skater, has great hands, anticipates well, makes some sweet passes and has a good wrist shot. He also scares the hell out of most defensemen when he comes in hard on the fore check. What he is not is a hard worker; if he had the energy and initiative of someone like Bob Gainey we would not be having this discussion.

As much as I dislike the Canucks (go Flames go) you should consider this....

Once a player gets recognition such as a big time contract or player of the week honors they seem to "slump". I think that other teams are now more aware of this player and focus more on that player than if they never received the recognition. This in turn drives down their stats as they have a harder time scoring and thus the fans start calling him a bum, wanting him traded etc...

In what other ways does this player contribute to the team. Leadership roles, +/- ratings, frees up other players for scoring chances, etc

Sometimes with the recognition, players try to do more and frustrate themselves by not performing to the level they or the fans demand of them. It just takes time for these players to readjust.

You Canuck fans aren't alone with this problem. You have Bertuzzi... we have Iggy. But I wouldn't trade Iggy cause he is not potting 50+ goals a year, he contributes in a lot of otherways that don't appear in stat sheets; neither should you on Bert

I think it's called human nature, folks. Very few people have the personal motivation (despite vehement claims otherwise) to retain the drive coming up as they do after making it. Gretzky was one of the few who, no matter how big the contract continued to perform above his past levels. Bertuzzi is having the natural reaction after signing for the big bucks - he's taking it easy now. He may pick it up, but his past doesn't make it seem likely. Part of my disdain for him is I have personal contact with him and his sureliness isn't an act. He's just a prick to be around. I ask what Dan Russell asks, "Just why does he have to go out of his way to be such a jerk?"
