)a dumb statement from someone who has probably never been there .50 years after, Fidel finally realizes that the system failed and Cuba is damn broke.
The system has worked quite well for a country at war with the Yanks for 45 yrs.
Probably not as broke as USA or greece or portugal and many others.
Where Fidel screwed up was not to allow the internet into the country , he should have embraced it many years ago.
It has opened up a lot since his brother took power and there are now many free enterprise businesses and people with money.
A very speical place on the planet without macdonalds , 7-11 and walmarts.
I love cubans and take my hat off to them for what they have accomplished while under embargo for 50 yrs.
Don't really travel as much as before, just about 1x or 2x a year mostly in Havana and Varadero. Invested in Ceiba Holdings which owns tourism properties in Cuba and employs hundreds of hotel workers. Quite helpful these days as the Cuban government laid off 500,000 state workers due to their basket case economic condition. Btw, the Castro brothers also admitted that Communism has failed. I guess the Cuban government officials are pretty much dumb as well for telling interested investors during their foreign roadshows that they badly need investments as their country is broke.
btw, Fidel's favorite cigar before he stopped smoking was the Cohiba Corona Especial.
