As a I browse many of the ads on Perb and other related websites, I have wondered if the girls are licensed. I have started asking some of the girls if they are licensed and am noticing that it is actually rare.

My question:
Am I "protected" from getting arrested if I meet a girl who is licensed vs a girl who is not licensed? Can the girl be licensed and offer incall (or is this against the rules of being licensed)? Does licensing only apply to girls who provide outcall?

Appreciate any info from the ladies and/or guys.

thanks,

thanks for your due diligence in determining that this wasn't a review....and moving it to an appropriate section!

I would still like to get feedback on the topic.

That said, A pooner is not contravening any section of the criminal code by contacting another adult who is already working as a sex worker in a non-public place and arranging for an outcall to the pooner's home or hotel. A regularly used incall location would likely be found to be a common bawdy house by a court. Being found in one does contravene the criminal code.
Great reply PeaceGuy,

You seem to know your stuff, a legal eagle perhaps? I have a concern that was not addressed in your well thought out answer and hopefully someone can answer for me. What about the law "communication for the purpose of prostitution." Does this site and others like it fall in the boundaries of this law? I know we have different entrapment laws than our friends south of the border so i wonder how that fits in.

One last thing, i seen a picture in the Edmonton Sun last week of a sign somewhere in the city indicating "the lady you pick up, probably works for us (EPS)." How far can an undercover SP go to make a bust? Is there a line they can not cross?

Funny thing...I was checking some of the "asian" escort ads in one of the local papers and they say "licensed", but when you call them, it's "incall"..to an apartment building and you have to go to someones place.

Now how can they be licensed (with a license number in the ad) but running their business as an incall?

Have others noticed this as well ?

Licensed vs NON Licensed it is frustrating I have been recruited by SO CALLED LICENSED Agencies just to Discover there are not which is Awful it places so many innocent people at RISK. Very tough to weed the Licensed one's out of the unlicensed ones like a needle in a hay stack. UNLICENSED AGENCIES Place so many people at Risk I dont understand if they
have the money why not operate in a legitimate manner . A Licensed Business Accept's Credit Card's Master/Visa & have a ATM then you know it is a Legitimate established business

Perhaps one of the ladies can better explain the types of licenses. My understanding of the Edmonton bylaw is that there are escort licenses (moderately priced), MP studio / Escort Agency licenses (very expensive) and MP attendant licenses (least expensive) which are tied to working at a licensed studio. Odds are that the SPs do hold a license of one form or another but might not be complying with the conditions of the permit.

I think you covered it. I don't know if maybe an sp working for an agency needs a different kind of license, cheaper than if she gets one as an independent solo. Like the ones required by massage parlour attendants. That would be a case of an mp sp having a license in an incall, for the OP.

Licensing doesn't have anything to do with location, it is sp specific, afaik. The independent sp gets a city license as an independent escort, she could do incalls or outcalls, she'll still be a licensed independent escort. If an sp does not get a license, she'll do the same thing unlicensed, incall or outcall. If she doesn't get a license, and doesn't screen her callers, she is likely to end up on an outcall appt and get fined by bylaw officers.

If you call an unlicensed sp to come to visit you or you go to visit her, there is no one to charge you with anything for having seen an unlicensed sp. That is specifically talking about you visiting an actual sp or having one visit you.

Licensing is a scam...

When I licensed myself for a small business the cost was $100. My name and the name of the business were put onto a brightly coloured piece of paper which I hung in my office.

Licensing for escorting requires a criminal record check and fingerprinting.

They say they need our fingerprints to protect us in case we turn up dead ???

But they do not take fingerprints of Seven Eleven employees...or of me when I worked late nights alone at a sex shop in a seedy area of town.

I have concluded it is another cash grab by people who seem to think escorts pee money.

Pity, because it is a legitimate business and should be treated with the same respect afforded to other legitimate businesses.

PS....

It is interesting that an Auto Dealership pays an annual license fee of $151 and a Body-rub parlour/body-painting studio/model studio pays an annual fee of $9,504

Also, I found interesting was this category of transient peddlar/trader required to pay $613 per week or $3013 per annum for licensing....pretty steep eh? Poor encyclopedia salesman!
