If you’re single, you might be pleased to know you’re saving some money. The price of falling in love keeps climbing higher, according to a new review that’s come out just in time for Valentine’s Day.

RateSupermarket.ca’s third annual “cost of love” study says from start to finish, the dating process will run a bill of more than $50,000 – up 11.4 per cent from 2014. That covers a year of dating, a year-long engagement and all the costs associated with a wedding.

“I’m not saying you should give the gift of a financial plan for Valentine’s Day, but I’m thinking that this is a very expensive proposition,” said Pattie Lovett-Reid, CTV News’ chief financial commentator. “You’ve got to get it right.”

To arrive at that figure, the market comparison website did a cost analysis on the expenses an average Canadian couple would face over that two-year period. A “fancy” date, for example, includes a nice dinner and theatre tickets, while “casual” dates take into account the cost of takeout, coffee and Netflix.

Their assumptions might not be perfect – not everyone gets a beach vacation every year, or throws a $2,000 engagement party. But if you want to get a rough idea of how much Cupid’s arrow is going to cost, check out the chart below.

Interesting cost analysis, thank you for sharing Perb Boy.
Now is it just me or do the dollar figures above look like the dollar figures from the '80's?
Perhaps it's all relative. Perhaps I'm just old. : )

In a relationship and when I was married, I spent less than when I am single and not even seeing escorts. It was nothing to go out Friday and Saturday night week after week and spend $500 each weekend. I spent more on clothes as well and just because I was single, it didn't mean I stopped taking vacations. And of course I spent a ton on drinks and activities when I went on those vacations.

I don't suggest that this thread is just about escorts vs relationships but some guys use stats like those above to suggest that it makes more sense to see escorts than be in a relationship and maybe that works for them but the overall "return on investment" is way higher for those who can appreciate women for more than just 30 minutes of foreplay and 7.3 minutes of actual sex. And as a business man type, I can say that women in my "peer group" can be very insistent about carrying their weight financially in a relationship regardless of whether it is serious or casual.

What about the cost of divorce. That will cost you your life if you're a man. The woman is usually the one who profits.

I find that in life, everything has its pros and cons.

Pros for Love - Intimacy, companionship, building relations with partners friends and family, emotional/mental stimulation, discovery, investment with children, sense of joy = Priceless?
Cons for Love - Trust and unfaithfulness, boredom, divorce, nagging, no sex, partner loves to shop, mental breakdown, bad children, in-laws, pain and hurt, major loss = One big bill?

Pros for Poon - Freedom! quickies, thrills, stimulation, no strings, multiple orgasms with different partners, quantity and quality, wide selection of warm beautiful providers, hot and steamy, living the dream/moment, enjoying life = Seizing the day?
Cons for Poon - Bad service, mediocre looks, bad attitude, unclean, potential of catching something, getting gang beaten, being scammed, getting robbed, getting caught, losing face, going to jail = Not passing go and losing '2$$'?

I think the big key is keeping things balanced. Though if I were looking for companionship, I think I'll stick with a dog. :)

I am single now, but when I was married, I spent $5,000 on a boob job for the wife. She was delighted. I spent another $2,000 on a nose job for her. She was ecstatic. I spent $2,000 on a liposuction job for her and she couldn't thank me enough!
But I spend 50 bucks on a blow job for myself and she goes fucking nuts!!! .......Women, I can't figure them out!.
