So far this year, I've pumped 6 SP's and while I've had fun, I am now on my 3 cold for the year. Each time, within 36 hrs of the session I get the sore throat and start pumping the Vitamin C and Echiniciea (spelling?).

Anyone else keep getting sick from these gals?

If your immune system isn't dealing with things well, then just stop doing whatever it is that makes you get sick.

I cannot stand people who go to work sick if they are able to take the time off. This applies to any profession. If you have the ability to take off and you're highly contagious, please do. And don't send mail when you're sick if you can avoid it. Postal workers appreciate this one.

Or these women could be decent human beings and stop working whilst sick and stop writing in silly font colours
;)

I can't stand parents who send their children to school sick. Infects the whole damn system and kids with serious medical issues, low immune systems and at risk of getting sick easily are victims just because some parent didn't have the decency or brains to keep little johnny\susie home.

Vitamin D

In winter we are all too far north to get enough sun and we need that for Vitamin D. It's probably the only reason Europeans are white instead of black.

2000 units per day in winter and 1000 per day in summer depending on how much sun you get.

It helps your immune system.

Do tanning beds count for Vitamin C? (from the bulbs). I'm pretty sure you can only get that from the sun, but not 100% sure.

In the US though the problem is this pesky little thing called "at will employment" which means you can be fired for staying home with your kid, and a national minimum wage of 5.15/hr (only about half to 3/4 of states require a higher one, I've lived in places where the pay rate for cashiering was $5.15, 9 hour days) which means some may not be able to afford taking off.

That's why I said "if they are able". If it's going to make or break your bills (and you're living within your means, as opposed to being an idiot who buys a 700,000 house and a 60,000 car on a 25,000 salary) to stay home sick one day, then do work but take precautions like keeping to yourself as much as possible, frequent hand washing, and not sharing drinks or food with anyone.
So it's ok to send your kids to school sick and infect everyone else's children but it's not ok for adults to work when they are sick? You can't justify one and then not the other.

Well I live in Canada. That is my place of concern. You can't fire someone for that here. (You can try but it just wouldn't fly with the labor board). Besides, the older kids, say 12 and up, if they have colds and minor issues can be by themselves at home for a little while during the day. I also think that hopefully now that Obama is in, injustices such as you mentioned above are rectified and become a thing of the past.

If the worst thing you got from an SP was the common cold, count yourself lucky, dude... ;)

I think I read that tanning beds do not provide for Vitamin D production because the more damaging UV-B is kept to a minimum. You need the more damaging sunlight to produce the Vitamin D. A Google search will provide better info.

I understand that Vitamin D is very important for pregnant women. This provides the strong evolutionary drive for lighter skin in northern climates. When pale skinned people go back toward the equator there is no comparable drive for darker skin. They just die from skin cancer after their child bearing (or fathering) years.

As for keeping your children or yourself home from school or work to protect others, I wonder about that. You can only avoid a cold or flu bug for so long and then when a vulnerable individual eventually catches one they will be more seriously affected because they will not have been exposed to the intermediate strains that are constantly evolving and circulating. I consider a cold or flu infection to be part of a string of vaccinations. Flu shots make sense but I am not so sure about the value of avoiding exposure to cold and flu viruses.

One theory for the asthma and allergy epidemic in children is that they are not exposed to enough dirt while they are young, being shipped from play date to rec centre etc by SUV.

Note that I mentioned I hate adults who are ABLE to stay home and don't. People with loads of sick time that save it up to take when the "big game" is on and the likes. I mentioned that if you absolutely DO have to go to work, be smart/courteous and try and take precautions.[/QUOTE]

The top quote is somewhat contrary to the second quote. What if the SP can't miss work because it's her livelihood and she simply can't afford to take time off? (Just like any other Joe Q Public). She's not a decent human being but Joe Q Public is?

I have not had a cold or even the sniffles in years. The last time I had the flu was I don't even remember, maybe 10 years ago, or so, lol.

How I live is I am a semi vegetarian. I eat a lot of fish, tofu, beans, lentils, vegetables, wild rice, and spice (the spicier the better). I drink tons of water. I am also adamant about my beauty sleep. There are many foods, that I eat purely for the health benifits. I don't believe in lysol hand wipes or anti bacterial soaps (I actually believe they are bad for you). I believe in just plain old fashioned soap and water, and hygeine. I believe in using things that are good for your skin.

Go ahead sneeze on me, wipe your snot on me, lol. Throw whatever you want my direction. I will not catch it. I don't smoke cigarrettes or do any drugs at all, except the odd alcoholic beverage for fun now and then.

You are what you eat. The worse you treat your body, the worse it will treat you. Everything you put on your skin gets injested into your blood stream. Everything you put in your mouth has a specific function. If you eat a lot of fast foods, you will have a lower immune system, etc. Some things you eat will boost your immune system, others will attack it.

Excuse me while I go find some wood to knock on :D

It's not the girls' fault. If you had a stronger immune system it would destroy the pathogens you pick up from other people. It's obvious your immune system needs to be strengthened.

Either that or he's not sanitary in his daily dealings. Since I have stepped up my defenses is public, with lots of hand washing no matter what I do, and avoiding touching anything that the general public touches, like door handles, etc, I have had maybe 2 small colds in 5 years....

Update...

I am feeling better already...so it's been 5 days since the start of my cold, and my fever is gone, cough is gone, and just congestion remains. Hardly signs of a weak immune system.

On another note, I've got the flu once in the last 20 years and I don't get flu shots...since they are for the weak like Hubba.

I wash my hands at least 10 times a day, I don't pick my nose and eat it like Spooner69, and I never take public transit or fly.

It's possible this cold was contracted by people at work, but I still feel it likely came from the SP.

I agree public places are just filthy as human beings in general, are filthy filthy creatures.;)
