I fail to see how asking for a deposit would stop a robbery on site.
deposits have little to do with security and more to do with potential time wasting like ghosting bookings.

The banking trail of their names and addresses could help the police find them and make arrests.

Someone has been watching too many fictional TV crime dramas or is a superfan of deposits and fails to see the privacy and personal implications (but that's been talked to death here).
I am not advocating for deposits. He asked how a deposit from a bank would make any difference.
Criminals would not risk sending a deposit trail that could lead back to them. No one in the RCMP is going to a judge requesting your personal details because you stayed 20 minutes over the one hour you booked. However, if the criminals were dumb enough to send a deposit before robbing her, the RCMP can request a judge give a production order or a search warrant to compel a bank to release the private financial records to track them down.

Sadly this is what happens when there is anonimity in booking and little or no screening , too bad all SW do not / or can not 9 survival SW) screen and demand deposits.
