The recent conversation about sexual health and testing prompted me to put some thoughts and resources together on my website.
I've added a new JOURNAL POST looking at recent BCCDC surveillance data for Vancouver Island, regular testing, risk reduction, stigma, and why open conversations around sexual health matter.
For my own peace of mind and the protection of myself and others, I test monthly. My approach to sexual-health safety has evolved as I've learned more, and I think being informed and proactive is important for everyone.
I've also put together a Sexual Health Resources page with information on testing options including confidential/anonymized options and other useful resources.
I'm mindful of PERB's specific moderator reminder regarding discussion of STIs on the open board, so I'm intentionally not getting into the details here. The full discussion and BCCDC information are on my website for anyone who would like to read further. Additional provincial data and information on other STIs are available through the BCCDC surveillance report. I found their table is easy to look at ln a desktop but not ideal on my phone.
One thing I will say here: I don't believe shame helps anyone. Stigma can discourage people from seeking information and taking care of their sexual health. Being informed and proactive benefits all of us.
Ignorance isn't bliss. Information gives us something we can actually act on.
