That's a major bummer. I've actually been working out in Northwest Ontario, and their fires have been crazy for a while, though things seem to be improving out there a bit. Still sucks that the country keeps getting torched year in and year out.

I grew up in the Okanogan in the 70s and winter used to have 1-2 feet of snow. Now it get inches... The Okanogan is a semi-desert area, mild winters and hot temperate summers... The thing that holds the valley together is OK lake and other lakes that make the hotter summer bearable... Most people didn't have air conditioning back then...

Those pictures are awesome... the power of the fire as it flickers ....

Now what can I say about houses built with wood in these areas.... the governments and cities are responsible for letting people build with wood. Any new construction will have to be re-built with cement (ICF) wall and have siding of cement-board and metal roofs. Next include a 15.000 gallon tank of water for grass growing and for external fire nozzles that spray out mist over the house. To be turn on when the town is evacuated, so you have a house to come back to.

Out of curiosity, why do you need to grow grass? Couldn't you use a non-flammable product? Why do people need to have grass? Esthetics? I guess people are so concerned about how their place looks. Sorry, I just think there are other fire friendly earth coverings than grass. Just a rant.

Did you hate cutting the grass ... I did.... but today its more of don't water the grass due to summer time shortages in places. Water only 2 times a week.

Grass feels great to walk in bare feet... that is nice... Cool in the mornings and wet....

It is sad but climate change is in full display and it will only get worst. The world is very fragile in the 21st century thanks to human beings messing it up and mother nature is not happy at all.

There are solutions to the CO2 problem. The world is not ready to invest in it... cause they are still stuck on oil.....

Snowpack at 70% or so the last few years.
Rainfall down .. a lot for years in a row.
Planet warming up, oceans warming up, air masses changing as to where they are around Mother Earth.
Canada has over 900 million acres of forest. That is just shy of a billion!
Its all drying up.
We need rain and lots of it. As in rain for 40 days and nights kind of rain and then again the next few years. Then maybe we get back to where we were.
But this is global, Europe is seeing temperatures and no rain like never before.
Really too bad cloud seeding doesn't work on the scale its needed.

Things were going great until climate change showed up..... caused by mankinds greed to produce CO2 and destroy environments with toxic wastes to make profit, and then move away to an undamaged part of the world.... wait... there is no more paradise to run to .... adios paradise....

Yeah, im not a big grass fan. Its not cool in the morning on a summer day in the interior.
