I have worked in Social Justice and Advocacy for over 10 years and have experience ranging from data collection to coordinating in various projects and initiatives intended to improve the lives and safety of sex workers in Vancouver and across Canada.
While I do not have a University degree of any kind, my experiences developing initiatives, facilitating community development, working with all stakeholders and writing grant applications and reports could easily be classified as equivalent education, training and related experience. I am often called upon in terms of my expertise to advise researchers and other bodies about matters related to sex work.
My experiences with the initiatives such as Living in Community, the Sex Industry Safety Action Group, The Missing Womens Inquiry, The Supreme Court Challenge, The Parliamentary Subcommittee and the City of Vancouver Task Force gives me knowledge of all of the stakeholders involved in moving forward towards safety for everyone in the community. These connections to various stakeholder groups will give me the ability to better ensure any actions taken have been considered in a broad way and that all stakeholders feel confident moving forward.
I have met with politicians from across the lower mainland from all 3 levels of government including the Governor General of Canada and delivered presentations to the BC Federation of Labor, BC Government Employees Union, Canadian Public Service Employees Alliance, the federal liberal womens committee, the provincial NDP womens committee, representatives from 200 victims services organization from across British Columbia and even have traveled throughout the region consulting with sex workers and sharing our ideas with communities struggling with these difficult issues.
I check this board everyday several times to see if anyone needs help or support and have extensive knowledge of supports which are availible, ways we can discreetly solve problems and the ways various government bodies react/ act against members of our community.
