I usually book ahead but not necessary. They post the lineup the night before so you can see if there's someone you want to book. Or just walk in and roll the dice.

There is a back door (exit) that I always leave by but it's locked as an entrance. I think some people call ahead and get let in the back way. I agree the front entrance is very exposed.
