Recently topped up my minutes so that service is still available. Still on 3G. I picked up a 4G sim card; staff don't know too much about what's happening, but that's business as usual at most businesses.
Back of the SIM package reads:

To use our service, your phone must meet the following requirements:
Unlocked: Your phone must not be ties to another carrier'
4G capable: Supports high-speed LTE networks.
Supports LTE bands 2,4,7, and 66: These are the specific frequencies we use.
VoLTE (Voice over LTE): Enables clear voice calls over LTE.

My phone doesn't support LTE band 66, so I'll have to wait to see how things play out.

Found this site to determine if your phone is compatible: frequencycheck.com/
then your phone will only use 2, 4, and 7. meaning don't go to frequency 66 only areas if you want to be able to connect to the network 100% ;)

Received some paperwork from a 7 Eleven stpre that says Speakout will cpontinue service, but the last date to port over to a 4g sim was September 20. After that date (nobody told me this before that date) service will begin to be affected.

I'm not sure if the network that speakout partners with will accept your phone brand.

I've given up on Speakout. They don't want to be in the business, I think, so I'll help them achieve that. They won't respond to emails, NEVER answer their phone help lines, keep directing customers to Lucky, so why bother?

I've just got a Chatr one year plan and new phone. All in, it was $200, but I shouldn't have any new phone expenses for a year.

national security. some brands especially china need all electronic devices to have a backdoor built into it so that everything can go back to china and hence you are losing privacy. it's in the laws. we are now in the new era of war. ;)
And the US with its NSA ,and its Cyber security agency dosen't have back doors into phones?
The old non-smart phone options are being phased out, so governments can spy.....

the point is china can take a look at your data without court subpoena. Others cannot. so not everyone is protected in china in terms of prosecution.
spy is another say. everything single country is the same on this topic.

It's just a phone check for 4G compatibility for any network; it just shows the phones capabilities and if your phone has 4G that's all
it works with other networks doesn't mean it will work with 7-11 speakout. each network is different on which brands of phones are allowed to be used on its network.

This is what I ended up doing. Bought the TCL phone from Chatr and got the $100 prepaid, and set up a reminder in the calendar before the year is up. Originally wanted to bring my speakout number to Chatr but they needed my speakout pin to port the number.

Fizz didn't need my 7-11 pin to port my number. I just got a text on my old SIM to confirm porting, and that was more than a month ago.

Whatever you chose it's really the end of pay-as-you-go, now it's monthly plan this yearly plan that. We also need data now like for AsianFever using telegram only to communicate🤷‍♂️
Good luck everybody in dealing with this Speakout fiasco🤦‍♂️

I hate that telegram only shit. What is the point? A simple phone number is still the easiest way to connect.
