The expectation of "making" money on a house is sone what new in my opinion. My parents and their contemporaries didn't buy a house as an investment per se, it was a place to live and raise a family. Any profit was often used to fund an apartment or care home in later life.

Flipping houses shows made it look easy. Taxing the gain might slow it down. Also air bnb and the like has had a huge impact on certain regions.

Flipping houses shows made it look easy.
It is not easy, and you need lots of skills.
You need lots of reliable tradespeople.
One of my friends is a very shrewd builder but he just lost almost 40k on a flip.
People watch these shows and try it, and get fucked up financially. Especially if they buy a cheap house that needs a lot more work than they thought.
Fortunately there’s plenty of clueless buyers for shitty reno jobs.

Myers commercials are his best bet, and as much as I like Mikey, that’s a bit sad for a boring dry politician to need a comedian to boost his sense of humanity.
specially an AMERICAN comedian

Myers is no more Canadian anymore than Wayne or Michael J Fox are

they've all been living in the U.S. far longer than they lived in Canada

they're all American Citizens too, holding dual Canada/US

so much for all in on Canada

I agree with everything you just said. But I will also add, having more people in the country than there are houses for played a huge part in the last 10 years. 9 years ago, you could easily find a nice place for under $1200. Now it’s absolutely impossible even for a bachelor.

It’s definitely not a one reason only why we’re in a housing crisis.

Even Carney says Trudeau was focused on the wrong things. The liberals under Trudeau did a bit of damage control but we’re still here with huge homelessness. In his last year, he agreed to slow down immigration.

I absolutely love living in a melting pot of different cultures. I am definitely not anti immigration. I just think you need to have infrastructure and housing first before the new people get here
and jobs for them to do!!!

I totally agree with that statement. I am renting a nice 2 bedroom suite in North Van which includes private parking off the street, internet and cable for $1600. But I have been there 15 years. If I moved out my landlord could easily double the rent. I'm afraid my landlord might put a contract out on me if the difference gets much greater LoL.

Actually my worst nightmare is if he finds an excuse to evict me. For now I am just happy for how ever long it lasts.

I think he’s more Canadian than Wayne Gretzky.

1600 is reasonable for a nice 2 bedroom in a nice neighborhood. Anything more is a rip off and shouldn’t be the norm

I’m blessed in my housing as well. Very blessed and very grateful

Good god! I think there is a rent shock on the way. $3,000+ for a nice 1BR condo in DT Vangroovie. Anyone in GVRD with 2BR under $2K is probably living on borrowed time. Don’t believe over-supply for 1 minute. Demand still way outstrips supply.

I know a couple of peops that have under-market rents. They always pay on time, never cause a fuss, and fix anything that breaks themselves. I get it—don’t be a problem, give them no reason or excuse, and milk it as long as you can. Room-mate changes pose them some risks due to building access and strata + rental agreements.

Be blessed. Until you’re not.
Make lots of friends. Have a plan B snd C.

Canadian Banks Linked To Chinese Fentanyl Laundering Risk US Treasury Sanctions After Cartel Terror Designation

Canadian law enforcement experts such as former RCMP intelligence analyst Scott McGregor, believes a rarely discussed Canadian legal barrier—Stinchcombe—must be overcome. They argue Canada could unlock powerful new authorities if it begins treating cartel-connected Chinese money laundering networks as accessories to terrorism.

The rule, derived from the 1991 Supreme Court case R. v. Stinchcombe, requires Canadian law enforcement to disclose nearly all investigative material to the defense. While intended to ensure a fair trial, critics say it severely hampers complex RCMP investigations, especially those relying on wiretaps or sensitive intelligence, and risks blowing the cover of international partners and covert operations.

Why am I not surprised???

Next I expect to hear that Trump has manufactured a way to postpone indefinitely the midterm elections or simply prevent Dems from running in them. I think democracy as we know it in the good old US of A is about to die or is already dead.

and how's he going to stop Obama from running a 3rd time?

it's just sad that the media are such morons

actually said someone should kidnap and return a chinese guy running for the Cons to China

for a reward

yeah, he's a good talker, smart, knows economics

but won't debate in French, is shutting out the media in his events

so refreshing to have someone better/same as the Turd

maybe those roaring 20's we were promised by the Turd and the Munster lookalike still has a chance

Law enforcement will say anything to get increased powers.
Criminals are not the same as terrorists.

Brookfield Asset Management under Carney bailed out 26 year old Jared Kushner out of a tight real estate deal to the tune of 1.4 billion when nobody else would. Brookfield share holder Qatar a major benefactor in Trump’s son-in-law's work in the Middle East.

and that's great, but it's a result of 9 yrs of Liberals

that others aren't that blessed

and now, your new crush, Carney

the new boss, same as the old boss

not just in Enviro zealotry, which no one is talking about, go read his CV, his book, words from the last 5 yrs

yeah, cause he's going to completely change all his ideals, if he does isn't that a sign?

now go to the fact he wouldn't get rid of a guy who's all up on China, cause go look into Carney's past on China, yeah, just like the Turd, most of the current/past Liberals, their "admiration" of China, well really money they can get

a guy who doesn't have the basic ethics/character to immediately dump someone who told Canadians to grab a guy off the street and take him to the Chinese consulate in Toronto for a reward, a fellow candidate at that

this is the fucking tard you think is better than the Turd

now with his housing announcement, which is just more of the same old same old

just like the Turd, he's going to borrow BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO PUT IN A SLUSH FUND THAT WON'T PRODUCE ANY REAL RESULTS

CARNEY'S ANNOUNCED ANOTHER JOKE THAT HE'S GOING TO HAVE THE GOV'T, WHICH HAS NEVER WORKED, BUILD

CHEAP HOUSING, A RIDICULOUS NUMBER AGAIN 500,000 A YEAR

wilson raybold said the other day

looks like the new piece of shit is a lot like the old piece of shit

you would think she would have some insight into that

anyone under 40 who votes Liberal or doesn't come out to vote against them

Polls keep increasing probability of a Liberal majority. The CBC Poll Tracker I posted last week currently has 85% probability of a Liberal majority versus 1% for the Conservatives. Of course we are still almost a month away from the election so there can still be a turn around for the Conservatives. And no, the stats above is NOT an April 1st joke LoL

I will absolutely never vote conservative and anybody that does, doesn’t love Canada for the things that make Canada great. Like social programs, universal health care etc etc etc.

I don’t have a crush on carney. I have a few crushes on a few ladies that post on perb. I’ll never tell who tho 😘.

I do think carneys got some good plans tho. And I wonder how much the cons are paying you to advocate so strongly for them? 🤪

I don’t think anybody anywhere should be fired for saying things without thinking them through and then publicly apologizing. What he said didn’t fall under any hate speech laws. It’s just a blown out of proportion thing that other politicians do to make another politician look bad.

I love talking politics. It’s entertaining. I also know I use this board to advertise haha. So every once in a while it’s probably a good idea to say, we absolutely don’t need to talk politics when naked and I don’t care who you vote for. Im not emotionally invested in politics. I’m definitely not tribal like ol overdone there. Just vote. Especially women. Maybe if everybody in Canada voted, we wouldn’t constantly be going back and forth from liberals to cons. Maybe ndp or green would have more of a chance

I wish it was a law that every Canadian citizen had to vote. Don’t know how that would be enforced tho in a way that I’d be ok with. Being as left as I am. haha.
