My internet is down.
Shaw Customer Service referred me to a chat service.
You have to provide your credit card to get customer service from some place in Cyprus…
Thank you to our corrupt Competition Bureau for a monopoly that rips me off.
WTF!

Rogers has become one of the worst communications company out there. I actually worked for them for 6 months doing customer service for wireless care. I used to get into trouble by my supervisor because they time you on your calls, and I was told I spent too long on calls, where I was helping customers out. They literally wanted me to cut calls short instead of helping their customers, which is why you often won’t get good customer service and support.

They have such a huge monopoly in the industry they don’t seem to care about their customers much, or at all. It’s really sad. I remember as a kid my mom having a car phone with Cantel then they became Rogers and they were just a little company then.

My internet went down 10 hours ago and I haven’t been able to contact an actual human yet.

Interesting. 3 weeks ago I subscribed to internet / tv ignite bundle with no issues whatsoever. Whenever I call shaw/ Roger's during regular hours for specific questions I've never had issues, or waited long either. I've been with Shaw tv internet for over 20 yrs now.

Whats your secret? Ive been calling for days now and on hold every call. I hang up after a 5min now. Tried texting but dealing with bots is moronic and so scripted with zero solutions, its a joke. Glad i dumped them and went with 3rd party carrier for a 3rd of the price.

No secret...I call during regular hours... 604-310-shaw.
I listen to the promps....English, technical support etc. I do wait a bit but not long. Again...I call during 9 to 5 hours.
If you call after 6 pm per say. Then yes,good luck getting through.

I haven't had serious issues with Rogers/Shaw help, although I despise Rogers, and they should have never been allowed to buy Shaw. I'm sure there is serious corruption with the non-existant oversight of the competion bureau.

On another note, I get a call about every month from Rogers trying to get me to upgrade.

You might be referring to Telus. When I called Rogers/Shaw’s customer service on behalf of an in-law, their announcement indicated that their call center is located in Canada.

Last time I spoke to Rogers Internet Tech Support he was in Winnipeg!
Telus uses a 3rd party for Tech Support, whereas Rogers has their own support team, such that it is.

Thanks for sharing the fuckup/ warning.

Glad you had the sense not to give them any info, and you have the spider sense to know it didn’t feel right. This just shows how scams can happen to anyone. If you’d been in a rush, distracted, maybe even just a little foggy that day, you might have been taken. Imagine how easy it is for these fuckers to scam seniors or even young folks without a healthy sense if scepticism and suspicion.

FWIW at my recently vacated location I fought with Shaw for the duration (9 years) about their intermittent service. A problem in the buried line. Neighbours had the same issue. I mean pull a new conduit from the switch and run a new line (maybe 100 feet) but no .... So I switched to Telus, yeah one devil to another but at least the service has been up 99% of the time. New house undergoing a major reno right now will have that same Telus service ported.

Its a shell game for us in Canada where the gov and its agency are NOT on the side of the consumer/taxpayer/citizen. Fuckers.

If you contact any communications company and are not getting the help you want, make a comment about looking into switching to another company and ask to be transferred to “retention”. Most people know this as “loyalty department” or some other name but within communications companies it’s called “retention”. We were taught if anyone somehow knew this was the name for it then to transfer right away. Anytime I have an issue, add a service and they quote me something I know is too high as a long time customer I just ask to be transferred to “retention”. The people in this department know more, have more training and and have more access to things other departments don’t.

Oh the irony! I was just coming on here to start a thread about SHAW! I have currently been on hold for an hour and a half on my phone and I am 71st in line for the online chat. WTF ? I am not even a customer but think someone has opened an account with my credentials. Originally I was just trying to report spam/scam sms, however while on hold they keep informing me my balance is zero and there have been no new changes to my account. That I don't have !

I feel your pain!

About 10 years ago I decided to ditch the mainstream providers because of their stupid bullshit and researched some of the minor players that basically piggy back off the big boys.
The company I chose was using Shaw, which was the least foul of the bunch.
I got lower rates and better customer service.
I had an issue a couple of years ago and called them.
Took 5 minutes to connect with a human in Burnaby and he diagnosed the issue in a couple of minutes.
A technician was sent out the next day. He was Shaw guy.
Updated my equipment and made up a new cable, which was actually my responsibility.
That saved me some hassle.

I'm starting some online classes soon and need a bump up in speed.
Checked out their website and they had a promotion on just what I needed.
I ended up with an upgrade for the original price!

Sometimes things just work out. :)

Sometimes the trick works where you select the option that you are a new customer wanting to sign up and usually they pick up those calls the fastest. And if they use same customer service reps then when you get connected, you can just state your issues as an existing customer. But this doesn't work with all companies as some use different reps and the sign-up rep might have to transfer you to another rep and you might get put on hold which might be faster than regular hold queue or might just put you in the same queue as if you had selected that option while calling yourselves anyway.
