Speaking of 'on the hook', How many Billions did we lose now by overpaying for the TM pipeline? most estimates say there was at least a 1Billion dollar overpayment + additional 700million yearly, until the disaster gets off the ground.
australia is killing us right in terms of mining and oil, not to mention much closer to asian markets. meanwhile we just ponied up $52M to Gaido in Venezuela... KILLING OUR OIL SOFTLY JT

Plus we overpaid for a pipeline that Justin never intends to build. The purchase was a cynical political maneuver done with taxpayers money to try and straddle both sides of the fence..pretend he was going to build it to attempt to mollify those who want our resources developed and then not build it because after all....anyone think he wants a summer of protests, potentially violent going into the fall 2019 election to ruin his attempt to project a world image as an environmental crusader and his chances for a majority government? He's still not going to get any votes from the right side of the spectrum but he can get votes from the left because of the complete vacuum in the NDP leadership.

In the last Election, Trudeau got the vote from the Indigenous People, I think mostly because Harper was making the Indigenous chiefs show where their money from the Federal government went. Chiefs were making million dollar salaries, while their people were getting less to nothing.
I googled Indian Affairs budget and some Frazer Institute article came up. https://www.fraserinstitute.org/article/taxpayers-are-generous-first-nations
The government spends 9000 on an Indigenous person compared to 7000 for the avg Canadian. (numbers are approx). And they don't pay taxes on the reserves.
Trudeau squashed the inquiry into the budgets, but you as a taxpayer should ask, where is that money going?
If I was a chief and gettting that much money, I'd invest outside Canada, in a tax haven, after all I wouldn't have to sign a tax form saying I have more than X amount invested outside of Canada.

Kind of funny all my life I been hearing "No taxation without representation"... should that work in reverse too?

Although the Indigenous peoples status/compensation/legal/handouts matters should be a election issue due to the money spent on them, it won't come up; because someone will cry racist......

Trudeau doesn't need to do much to win when his opponents are both pretty clueless
all they have to do is let him be him

he doesn't have a large majority

it's 11 seats, which can easily be lost in Ont alone, not to mention a couple in the east, can't see the brain dead fucks in the 3 seats from Calgary/Edm voting for him again

maybe Regina will take it's head out of it's ass and finally put Ralph out to pasture, 30 yrs too late

there's 7 to be lost in Manitoba too

The Harper government passed into legislation the "first nations financial transparency act".....or something to that.Basically it was to show ALL members of ALL First Nations the actual amount of money they get from
the Federal Government and at the same time WHERE the money WENT.The Chiefs and Council members of course did not like this as THEY are robbing their OWN people blind.Trudeau made the back room deal to get rid of the legislation
to get the "Indian" vote which he got.

When it comes down to brass tacks First Nations are not under funded they get a shitload of money and if members live on reserve they pay no taxes.Unfortunately for the average "Indian" the Chiefs and Councilors get the first crack at the pie
and AFTER they have taken their collective largesse leave their own people with a few crumbs in the pan....and of course the average "Indian" blames it on the "White man's Government"

Perfect example is Theresa Spence whose reserve in Attawapiskat was subjected to poor housing and drinking water etc.Yeah funny enough the reserve had a fancy new hockey arena with an NHL worthy scoreboard as well as a Zamboni that
had to be trucked in.Take a look at Theresa Spence and she looks like she has never missed a meal in her life.....kind of silly to go on a hunger strike or should I say a diet.

I am not bashing on First Nations I am calling a spade a spade.....Trudeau got into and drove his last campaign on class warfare whilst driving it with bullshit buzzwords and crapulence like "hey it's 2015"....yeah well it is now 2019 and that budget
has not "balanced itself" and the much talked about "middle class and those wanting to join it" have gotten fucked over brutally......never mind when the Carbon Tax gets jacked to $50 a ton 4 years from now.

Scheer has no game at all. He reminds me of the kids who were the first to get bullied at school. Complete lack of social charisma. In Canada there are a lot of people who are not tied to a political party like others are to a sports team. They will decide the election and they will pick shiny poster boy over feeble bullied boy any day. Federal policy, leadership and direction are secondary at best. People pick people.

This video basically sums up how Trudeau responds to accusations of his blunders and ineptitude. Basically ignores the question, shifts blame to Harper, and calls someone something-phobic or fear-mongering, and arrogantly turns away with his nose held high in the air, in true elitist holier-than-thou fashion. Never seen him or Morneau answer a single confrontational question in parliament.

BTW, i hope Pierre Poilievre takes the mantle of the Conservatives should Scheer fail.

The Liberals are going to lose ground because they won't have the other parties of the Left encouraging their supporters to vote Liberal this time (as they did last time on the promise of enacting proportional representation). That was the only thing that unified the Left vote. Without that, the division will be back to status quo, to the benefit of the Conservatives who largely have an unchallenged monopoly with constituents on the Right.

If I was the Liberals, I would center on Scheer and his similarities to the Republication party values in the states, an Trump want to be. A religious right enthusiast, who would bring abortion controll back to Canada beacuse of his religious beliefs...a fear campaign of going backwards, instead of going forward.
Follow up with the promise to tax the rich more, set up a committee to look at voter reform, make the senate a senate that is voted for. talk banking reform, eliminate user fees on bank accounts and banking machines (because that was all free before).
Promise the people on certain subjects, but have a way to pay for them that dosen't alienate the voters...
Control future policy by forcing issues which the other parties are weak on. for Conservatives- abortion etc.

Wow....just wow.....you must really love the socialist media in Canada spoon feeding you that worn out fallacy that Harper had a hidden agenda.Harper had 2 minority governments and 1 majority. When he had the majority government he appointed senators to take control of the senate but at the same time he did not fill all of the seats vacant as he was trying to reform the senate as elected. As for abortion Harper slammed the door on the extreme right wing hardliners and said NO....to the people that are his base and the same thing goes for gay marriage.

Yes Harper made a few bad plays along the way but when it comes down to it he did a damn good job steering Canada through the toughest time in Canada's history. There is practically NO way a Prime Minister with his vision for Canada is going to make everyone happy.

Taking a look at Justin Trudeau's record is just bad entitled comedy.I wont even bother to LIST what he has done in the last 3 years as I dont want to type it out.The guy is a fucking joke and has no clue.He comes off as an idiot if he deviates from the script written for him.His "plan" to reduce CO2 is a carbon tax that does not reduce C02 because planes/trains/automobiles dont emit Carbon Dioxide they emit Carbon Monoxide.Every living life form with a pair of lungs emits CO2 from breathing in oxygen....so a Carbon Tax is pretty much making us pay to breath.

Now this week what do Canadians get from team Trudeau.A cabinet shuffle just over a month ago and now an epic tale of essentially wrong doing and failed influence peddling.Trudeau has read his lawyer approved script and his lackeys have read it parrot like as well. The former Justice Cabinet Minister got shuffled out and "demoted" which was actually a bit of a shock as she was doing pretty good. She has said she cant make any statement due to "attourney/cleint" privacy.

This Lieberal scandal is pretty bad. When it comes down to it it is outright corruption.Sadly a good portion of Canadians forgot about the Administration Sponsorship scandal.....when the Liberals stole 250 MILLION of tax payer money and fed it to their cronies/insiders.I cant fathom how people could not remember that. Now we have a sitting Prime Minister who has been nailed with 4 Ethics Violations and is denying an obvious cover up.Seriously a Canadian Media outlet such as the Globe&Mail would not DARE to publish an article/story/piece etc this detailed and wordy if it were not true.We are talking about the Media that just got the first part of 595 MILLION in government cashola to spin the next election.

The phrase for a dog is "dont bite the had that feeds you" and that well applies to Canadian media including the Globe&Mail.......integrity is something that is better and this broke because somebody had some.

Trudeau knows exactly what went on as does Gerald Butts his right hand man.

This is the highest level of corruption by the Lieberals in the history of Canada.Working with political power to try and influence the branch of Justice and all for an engineering firm in Quebec which is a major donor to the Lieberal Party.

The most important question to be asked on the next hustings to Trudeau should be "meet Canada's commitments for the Paris Accord if you re-from government will you purchase Carbon Credits from other countries?"

Storm Rider you are a bit short on oxygen when burning Hydrocarbons...

Ref : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrocarbon

When any hydrocarbon is burnt, or mixes with O2; it creates water (H2O) and Carbon dioxide (CO2) plus heat (energy). You get Carbon monoxide (CO) when you burn a hydrocarbon and have incomplete combustion ( ie. not enough oxygen to burn the fuel).

And that is the bare bones on why the carbon tax is at the pumps.... Also its a tax grab.... hence why renewable energy would be ideal.

And in politics you are guilty of a rumour, unless it goes to court or shown to be untrue. For the rest of us if charged with a crime, we are innocent untill proven guilty in a court of law, not public opinion.

As for the media buyout I think its BS. Why, because of the social media giants. they suck up the advertizing budgets because of the wide exposure they get. Small town newspapers are closing down, cause people don't read newspapers anymore. The reporters from those papers are gone, not reporting. Take a look at CTV, if there is a news story in Israel, someone in Calgary reports on TV for it (with scenes from the American Press, CNN, or FOX) from Calgary. It takes money for programs like CTV W5; and for CBC investigated reporting.

I watch streaming news. Although I hate the (can't stop commericals), 3 years ago it was the same commerical playing for the entire broadcast. Facebook took a drumming due to several scandals and advertizers have gone away from them. Back to the old networks...so today I am now seeing 4 to 5 commericals during the online streaming news.

A good reporter asks Who, What, Why, Where and When and gives both sides of the story. There should be a history of both sides of the story. You should look for that when reading your news articles. Nowadays you should be looking at who put the news on (who is paying for it, and what are they trying to do).
In Canada its CBC, CTV. Sidenote I use BBC on phone.

Trudeau has shown that he is none of the things that people voted for. Feminists diminish women by calling them by their first name. First Nations supporters don't bulldoze trap lines whilst forcing a pipeline through FN land. Environmentalists don't buy pipelines and subsidize increases in oil production. And then there is the little matter of promising to change the way we elect people. He won't be getting Environmentalists, First Nations, NDP supporters or Green supporters to vote for Liberals led by Justin Trudeau. Even if he pushes hard on the boogeyman of Andy Smear getting a Conservative government.

OTTAWA - Liberals faced accusations of a coverup Wednesday after they agreed to hold limited committee hearings into an allegation that former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould was improperly pressured to help SNC-Lavalin avoid criminal prosecution.

Their short list of three proposed witnesses does not include Wilson-Raybould, who resigned from cabinet Tuesday.

The five Liberal MPs on the House of Commons justice committee used their majority to block an opposition motion that would have seen the committee hear from nine key players in the controversy, including Wilson-Raybould, current Justice Minister David Lametti, clerk of the Privy Council Michael Wernick and senior aides in the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's office, including chief of staff Katie Telford and principal secretary Gerald Butts.

Liberals approved instead their own motion, which called on the committee to hear from just Lametti, Wernick and the deputy justice minister — although more could be added next week after getting legal advice, behind closed doors, on what steps the committee needs to take to avoid interfering with two ongoing court cases involving SNC-Lavalin. The Montreal engineering giant has been charged with bribery and corruption involving contracts in Libya.

The Liberals defeated an attempt by New Democrat MP Nathan Cullen to strike a compromise of six witnesses, adding Butts and two other senior PMO aides who were heavily involved in the SNC-Lavalin file.

They also defeated a Conservative motion calling on Trudeau to immediately waive solicitor-client privilege, which Wilson-Raybould has cited as preventing her from commenting on the allegation.

The Liberal motion calls on the committee to study the legal principles at the root of the controversy — including the recently added Criminal Code provision that made it legal to negotiate remediation agreements in cases of corporate corruption, a form of plea bargain in which a company pays restitution, but avoids criminal prosecution that could bankrupt it.

The motion also included looking at the so-called Shawcross doctrine, which spells out the degree to which an attorney general may consult with cabinet colleagues about a prosecution.

"That is not an investigation, that is simply going through the motions," Cullen said after the meeting, accusing the Liberals of "battening down the hatches" to prevent any truth from coming to light.

"Liberals seem to think that this should be just a sort of study group, a book club to look at all sorts of interesting ideas about the law rather than the scandal that's right in front of Canadians."

Conservative MP Michael Cooper said the Liberals' motion is "part of a coverup" and an attempt at creating "a diversion" with lengthy hearings on legal principles.

"At the end of the day, this is really not that complicated. This is about the fact that certain officials in the PMO were alleged to have put pressure on the former attorney general to interfere in a criminal investigation, nothing more, nothing less ... The Liberals aren't interested in that. They're interested in covering this up."

Liberal MP Randy Boissonnault, who proposed the successful motion, defended the Liberals' refusal to call Wilson-Raybould to hear her side of the story. He said she's bound by a rule that prohibits a former minister from commenting on her previous portfolio and by solicitor-client privilege, noting that Wilson-Raybould has hired a former Supreme Court justice to advise her on what she can say.

"I think it's important for Ms. Wilson-Raybould to speak to Canadians on her own terms. It doesn't need to be something we do here at the justice committee," he said.

Trudeau, meanwhile, was sticking to his message that Wilson-Raybould had a duty to speak up months ago if she had concerns about the way the government was handling the SNC-Lavalin case.

At a short appearance in Sudbury, Ont., Trudeau dodged a question about what reason Wilson-Raybould gave about why she resigned from cabinet, leaving the microphone rather than answering.

Wilson-Raybould was demoted to the veterans affairs post in a January cabinet shuffle. A Globe and Mail report, attributed to unnamed sources, last week alleged the PMO leaned on her instruct the director of public prosecutions to negotiate a remediation agreement with SNC-Lavalin.

Trudeau has denied any improper pressure was put on Wilson-Raybould and maintains she never mentioned any concern about that to him.

Prior to the committee meeting, Raitt said if Liberals believe Trudeau, they should support "without hesitation" the opposition motion for a full investigation into the affair.

"But if they defeat or they water it down in any way, it is nothing less than an admission of guilt."

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer, who is touring New Brunswick, repeated the same message a short time later. He accused Trudeau of "trying to paint himself as the victim in all of this," while "publicly impugning (Wilson-Raybould's) character in a way that prevents her from speaking for herself."

Raitt said the Conservatives will now pursue other options to get to the bottom of the matter. Among the options, she mentioned a judicial inquiry or an investigation by a Senate committee. She did not rule out asking the RCMP to investigate.

Federal ethics commissioner Mario Dion has initiated his own investigation into the matter, specifically whether there's been a violation of the Conflict of Interest Act.

In the wake of the allegations and Dion's review, SNC-Lavalin had its debt rating downgraded Wednesday by Standard & Poor's to BBB- from BBB.

The agency cited the criminal charges against the engineering and construction giant and the possibility of a 10-year ban from bidding on federal contracts among its reasons for the downgrade.

An interesting but possible scenario if NDP supporters could ever see fit in Burnaby South to switch their votes anywhere else...even the Liberals. If Jagmeet Singh loses this byelection then it has already been determined by senior MPs that he will have to resign and a new leader will be chosen. With her fate basically sealed in the Liberal Party there is Jody Wilson Raybould who is never going to be a Conservative...with experience in cabinet, smart, female and indigenous, someone that would be well suited to lead and revitalize a currently dead in the water NDP party and have great appeal to its supporters.

She could make a good leader and reverse their fortunes and with some luck...as apparently Lavolin does not create the angst in Quebec it does in the rest of Canada....she could potentially take a huge chunk of Liberal votes away that are looking for somewhere to go that isnt Conservative and wind up as the official opposition.

That could seal the deal for Trudeau to lose, resign and set his sights on the job he really wants...Secretary General of the UN.

Jody would have the ultimate revenge. A win for her, a win for the NDP and a win for Canadians.

Actually no the NDP needs to gain some ground and split the left vote base so Canada gets a Conservative government elected that will get this country back on track to prosperity.

Hey how about that Carbon Tax.....got my utility bill yesterday and over the last month I foolishly consumed 15 gigajoules of natural gas so that I did not freeze to death and it cost me $44.91

On top of that the Carbon "levy" was an additional $22.77 with the "levy" at $20 a tonne.Do the math and I am paying just a bit over 50% of the cost of the gas to the Carbon Tax.When it hits $50 a tonne the Carbon Tax
will cost me more than DOUBLE the cost of the actual natural gas I foolishly use to heat my home and have hot water. At the same time none of those evil Green House Gas emissions will get reduced as Canadians have no choice in the matter
as they dont want to freeze to death.

Storm Rider, out of curiosity, if you had to choose (no abstaining, no third choice) would you rather an NDP government or a Liberal government?

My opinion of the Liberals is that it's the party the far left and far right would hate less to see in power than their polar opposite. i.e. they're more likely to make us all equally miserable, which in a weird way makes them the most democratic choice.
