I wonder, if every independent decided to stop advertising on that page tomorrow, what would happen?

i'm already with you girl...it doesn't even do much for me anyway, I paid up once again a few months ago and they gave me 5 free bumps for the week because I hadn't been around in a while on their site, and it was pointless. Not worth the price tag for me anyway!

yeah right, each bump is now $10!!! on ERS a bump costs $1.50 USD...I used to spend $20+ per day on backpage, my credit cards would be maxed out within the week, it would eat up half my income, totally not worth it when I learned it wasn't needed.

edit: the trick is not to use it so much haha...your ad will eventually be seen unless you're trying to hustle quick cash and have a time limit.

Maybe they want to make their millions before they get shut down. Or maybe they're trying to price their ads beyond comfortable affordability for sex traffickers.

I stopped advertising in the escort section when it went up to $7 per bump. Even that was already bs. I can't remember exactly how much it was when it first started to take over after CL shut down the erotic services section but the price just kept going up, up, up.. That's pimping as far as I'm concerned. Lol But Yah, I thought $7 was ridiculous, $10 is nonsense. It's especially bad because unlike perb, when you bump an ad on bp, it doesn't stay on the first page or at the top very long.

The problem IMO is sp's or agencies who bump constantly throughout the day. Or who have several ads featured on the side of the page. That tells bp that people don't mind paying more and will likely only stop spamming if it costs more. Stop the spamming/over posting/over bumping and the rates won't keep going up this way.

My 2 cents.

But I do think bp rates are excessive.

It depends on what city & what section you post the ad in. Victoria just jumped from $5 to $7 for female escorts but every other adult category is only $1 or $2. Places like Kamloops are only $5 and Whistler & Fraser Valley are only $2. It's ridiculous.

Personally I never use Backpage to look for SPs. Way too many fake/dodgy ads anyway.

Simple economics: supply and demand.
Too many 'sps' posting and often because they aren't good enough for that repeat business means the prices for ads are being artificially driven up leading to a cycle whereby others add fuel to the fire and they all feel the pain.

The stand on the corner remark is terrible . I'd say focus on being a top notch provider it'll mean less need to post as you'll always be quite busy!

I totally agree...and even if your ad is on page 15, if you have regulars, they will seek you out and if they see your ad posted anywhere, they will call! Even if you remove all your ads if someone has saved your #, they will still find you if your phone is on. I've actually just been bumping for regulars the past few months, haven't really seen anyone new...I'm going through a phase, it will pass, happens every year I've noticed, I do feel bad for #s I dont recognize that contact me but I don't feel ready to state it as an official thing anywhere online yet...just incase, you never know who you'll meet

Instead of boycotting Backpage I would suggest to boycott SPs who are involved in price gouging: any SP charging more than 140/hh max / aunties charging more that 120/hh max UNLESS some special service is offered. Fake pics? Boycott them all! That would be of greater importance than boycotting Backpage...

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure any price increase is temporary and only motivated by the fact that there is less business per SP these days (too much competition), so a lot of them are increasing their prices so that it is more in line with that they are used to earning.

Think about the last 10 years and what SP's have been charging. Heck go back 15 years if you can. It's been averaging the same, around $250 hr for independant SP's. Today they are hovering around $200. Even if they remained the same, it still hasn't kept up with inflation. Also back then, bbbj was not as common as it is today, cbj's were the norm. Back then bbfs was very uncommon, now it seems to be quite common place.

So there's no need for a pooners to do what you say. The industry is too easy for a girl to get into and the money here is too good compared to other cities west of Toronto, and these things are driving prices down and services up in the long run.
