I dont see how paying $550 for new the new Iphone 5 that is only marginally better than the last Iphone
is cheap in any way.Especially when you get roped into a fresh 3 year contract that has all those add-on
fees such as system access/911 etc and nobody opts for a low data plan as then their precious Iphone
is pretty much useless. And in one year the easily lead sheep will be buying the next Iphone as Apple
will stick to it's strategy and release a marginally better phone year after year and all of these suckers
that just have to have it will keep buying them.

Yah I just bought Samsung Galaxy III S, nice phone. I especially like the google map and navigation feature. My only complaint on this phone is that the battery life blows ass, if I am web browsing or doing any multi tasking on the phone the battery drains pretty fast, I am forever charging the damn thing. Any clue how to prolong the battery life? or which apps you can turn off on the phone to increase general battery life? Is the iphone 4s able to last longer for general purpose use or are they both the same? the more web browsing, etc you do the faster the battery drains

Love Google maps on Android. Saved my butt numerous times while travelling. Not sure how long it will take Apple to come up to Google Maps capability. I am actually pissed that Apple removed it from their apps. Sort of a show stopper for me to use an iPhone now.

On your Galaxy, have you tried turning off all the stuff you don't need at that moment. i.e. WIFI, Bluetooth, Apps you are not using and turning down the display to a lower level? On my Atrix I can customize the display to prolong battery life. Another plus for the Atrix is I have two charged batteries all the time with me. My work day starts pretty early and sometimes I am still going at 7 PM. A phone that dies at 3 PM is unacceptable.

Some other 'power users' I know bought these power packs. Basically recharges your phone on the go anytime and with 6000 mA/H you are basically tripling your battery in any smart phone if the average is 1800 or 1900 mA/H.

Look on Ebay for a spare battery for your phone. You will most likely find one and it will cost a fraction of what
a spare battery costs at a cell phone store.I had to do this for my old blackberry as my battery crapped out on me.

Hope this helps.

eBay is notorious for fake cell phone batteries and accessories. If your phone catches on fire and its a non OEM battery - Good Luck!

I don't like paying OEM prices especially on batteries but if it a $50 battery OEM vs a $10 battery Fake going into a $800 phone you gotta be nutz for going cheap.

I have been playing with my new iPhone 5 for 2 hours so far. This phone is little faster, little bigger screen, and better picture/screen than iPhone 4S, but there is no feature that makes me say "Wow" yet. I think the big upgrade was iOS6 for my old iPhone 4S. Knowing myself, I will be up all night to explore my new phone:D

A full review with contrast and compare will be expected by tomorrow AM :D

I have one on order and am concerned about battery drain. I would be interested to see what battery usage you notice in the first week or so.

The speed of LTE looks unbelievable.

Check out some of the Speed Tests posted for Rogers on Howardforums. (I am sure Telus and Bell have similar numbers. I quoted Rogers because they are my carrier) Like 10X faster than a 3.5G phone. 75MB/sec download is crazy fast. Faster than some people's home routers.

Question for someone who is tech savvy:

Why is it that here in Canada the iphone 4 is not capable of receiving 4g internet speeds even though the hardware is capable of handling 4g. I heard this is just in Canada but places in the states when the iphone 4 came out were supported 4g access. How has this changed with the introduction of the iphone 5 with 4g LTE. Since we are in Canada will we still not be able to access the 4g for the iphone 5 like we weren't with the iphone 4? And if we're suddenly able to access 4g with the iphone 5 why can't we access it with the iphone 4? Basically I just want to be able to utilize 4g internet speeds for my phone 4 like I'm supposed to!

So confused
Check out the published LTE footprint from the carriers. You may find you are in a 3.5 G HSUP area and not an LTE area.

http://redboard.rogers.com/tag/network/

Edited to add:

An iPhone 4 or 4S is a 3.5G HSUP phone. People get the Apple model numbers mixed up with the technology.

Only the iPhone 5 plus a bunch of android Samsung, HTC et al are able to utilize LTE which is the true 4G.

yes, some salespeople even say 4g (lte) when it's actually 3.5g (hspa+) to hook you to buy it so that they don't have to worry about being stocked up! so, you have to take a look at the actual full tech specification from the manufacturer's website.

All the Apple hate is interesting.

iPhone 5 benchmarks blow away the S3 and any other Android phone:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6324/the-iphone-5-performance-preview

The display is incredible:
http://www.displaymate.com/Smartphone_ShootOut_2.htm
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6334/iphone-5-screen-performance

The thinness, lightness and build quality are a quantum leap over the S3. OS upgrades are guaranteed to be supported for many years, unlike any Android device, which are generally made obsolete after a year or two.

I don't see why this phone is so hated? Based on the comments, the "sheep" have become the people who hate on Apple for no good reason, and blindly follow IP thieves. Unless you really need a huge screen (which has usability drawbacks for those 90% of us without massive hands) the iPhone 5 is clearly the best phone on the market.

I suppose it's human nature to envy the rich and successful. If Apple was a startup and came out with the iPhone 5, everyone would be all over it.

People buy the bigger screens because they want bigger screens. It isnt a drawback, those phones have screens that size because that is what sells best.

The Galaxy S III was released over 4 months ago, and was in development for 18 months prior to that. It does not have the latest hardware (in fact, the north american version has different processors from the international version). The Galaxy 4 will come out in the first half of next year and no doubt it will outperform the iPhone 5. That is just how things go in the tech cycle. In fact, there will probably be other android/windows phones released in the interim with superior specs as well.

Unless you use your phone for mostly playing graphics intensive games (which few people do), all of the modern phones will perform equivalently in real world applications for 99% of the population. The deciding factor is going to be carrier availability, screen size, maps, the physical appearance of the machine and stuff like that.

As for Andoid phones becoming obsolete, that is total BS. I have a Galaxy S Vibrant, and it works just fine for what I use a smartphone for. And that is a phone that is over 2 years old.

As for "copying IP", that is nonsense. Apple have patents (as do other companies in the field) for things which clearly fail a reasonable standard of prior art and obviousness. However, the patents have been issued and that allows the company to use them as a club to supress competition. That is what all the patent fights are about, they having nothing to do invention and everything to do with stopping competition. In the long run their goal is to have the playing field all to themselves, so that they can invest less on making better products and charge more for what they do make. That is why the whole patent dispute thing is bad for consumers in the long run. It is not just phones that this applies to, it also happens in many other tech fields as well. The patent system is broken.

I wished it had a wider screen, a better front facing camera, NFC, expandable storage via micro SD card, removable battery, wireless charging and finally micro USB connections instead of yet another proprietary connector.

You just spelled out all of Apple's plans for making more $$ this quarter off of the iPhone 5.

Lightning Connector to 30 pin adapter $35
Additional Lightning to USB cable $21

Finding out that the 32 GB is NFG and you have to trade it in for a 64 GB version - mind boggles.

Mophie case with built in battery pack charger ?? iPhone 4s version $130 http://www.mophie.com/juice-pack-PRO-Rugged-case-for-iPhone-4-4S-p/2120_jppr-ip4-blk.htm

New Cigarette lighter to Lightning Connector car charger ?? $50 maybe

New upgraded phones are a real money spinner for new models.

The people in Saskatchewan would likely be more impressed if your friend spelt the provinces name correctly. Course if they're stupid enough to have a name like Saskatchewan they're lucky if anyone gets it right. I remember on a bugs bunny show they had a guy trying to get a password and one of them was "open Saskatchewan" lol
Saskatchewan, easy to draw.Hard to spell.

Well I hope you enjoy your Iphone, which performs better not because it's Apple, but because it's just the later iteration of technology cycle.
The next Android phones will be even better.

Anyhow, what is really silly is Apple decided that it would stick with a smaller screen when everyone else is getting bigger screens on this latest technological iteration. Apparently the 70% market for Android users have bigger hands than you 20% Apple fanboys do. Perhaps Apple's phones are meant for children?

Enjoy the little screen! You'll be seeing an optometrist for a new prescription soon.

What an ignorant comment. The "tiny screen" iPhone 5 will be the most successful smartphone in history. Clearly there are lot of people more than happy with it.

The trend of bigger screens for a device that is meant to be mobile and fit in your pocket all day is getting ridiculous. Samsung (and others) have been using it as a marketing tactic. It also allows them to fit more power and battery into their phones without having to optimize on their engineering, which is fair enough. It would be cringeworthy to see them try to come out with a competing device the size of the iPhone 5 - the amount of engineering it took to pack that much into such a small device cannot easily be duplicated. I have to admit it's a good strategy but there is a limit to ever increasing screen size on a PHONE. The Galaxy Note has easily surpassed that limit - I laugh every time I see one of those. I've even seen people use two hands to hold it to their head to talk, absolutely hilarious.

Apple could easily have made the iPhone any size they want - they design great displays for tablets, laptops and desktops so it wouldn't be a particularly difficult feat. Clearly they see an advantage to having a phone that isn't huge and can easily be operated with one hand - and so do hundreds of millions of users. For every person who switches to Android for a big screen, there are two or three who switch to an iPhone because they're tired of carrying bricks in their pockets.

Your ignorance shows with the optometrist comment. It's not only about screen size, but resolution and display quality as well, with the iPhone kicks ass at. My eyes are just fine.
