Been working in the field and haven't really had to buy clothes for the past 5 years. It's now catching up to me.

Today I went to Harry Rosen's and dropped $2,500 on shirts and pants.

4 pairs of Samuelsohn pants in black, blue, grey and tan.

7 long sleeve shirts, mostly Hugo Boss.

I still have to buy a belt and possibly some shoes and suits.

Congratulatons poorboyv6,
It can be a great investment. Now, I'm just waiting for Sperminator's fashion take...

By the way, if you want a name of a great fashion sales representative, PM me and I'll pass on the name of a gent I've been dealing with for the past 20+ years at the Harry Rosen in Downtown Vancouver.

I went to the Oakridge location. Free parking. Dealt with an Italian guy. He started high, trying to sell me Canali pants and shirts first, but the Canali pants are almost $100 more a pair than the Samuelsohns. Same with the Canali shirts. Even though I bought the lower end, that stuff is better than what 90% of the people I will be working with are wearing.

Once you are very comfortable with one SINCERE and knowledgable sales person, stick with that person. It's worth it in the long run.
Don't ever be forced to buy something that is out of your price range or if your gut simply says, "no".

Good luck with the building of your wardrobe. It can be a lot of fun. When you get to the point of wanting something custom made, PM me. I know of a great tailor. I knew him before he got busy with a lot of professional athletes (both NHL and NBA) and prominent locals.

Peace.

Thanks for the offer princeofdarkness,

I'm going to try and buy off the rack to keep costs down. I earn $100 K a year, but there is a certain hobby I have that is expensive ;)

Any idea where to get Allen Edmonds shoes and belts for a good price? Harry Rosen is expensive for shoes. Buying from Allen Edmonds website seems to be the cheaper way to go.

That's a great earning, congrats on that. Simply spend it on what gives you the most pleasure and I think you already are.
I've never purchased any clothing on-line so I'm sorry I cannot comment on fitting nor pricing.
As for Allen Edmonds shoes go, I believe Ingledews has a small selection of that brand.

Good luck.

I think you overpayed for that stuff but making some loser designer or store rich.
I'd have to disagree. I paid $200 each for dress pants 15 years ago, and wore them daily when I worked in Toronto. They still look good. Too bad my waist isn't 30 inches anymore.

Most of the guys I work with do not buy quality clothes, and you can see it from a mile away.

Im trying to get my waste down to 30 inches again. I always thought pants where pants and you throw it out after 6 months - a year anyways.

Jealous! $2500 is roughly the cost of my tuition per semester. I'd love to be able to spend as lavishly on clothes as you do.
When you are out of school and in the workplace you will face this reality.

It is very easy to drop that much on decent quality wool dress pants, good quality dress shirts to say nothing of a sports jacket or especially a suit. If you are not upgrading your wardrobe each year then you may have to spend even more to catch up.

Then there are shoes and I suppose Mr Brown Shoes Sperminator will weigh in soon on that issue

Is 100K a year considered a lot for most people? I assume this is before tax? Personally, I find it very straining to live in Vancouver and purchase a home even with this income.

Compared to what some of the guys earn on here, it's not much. I try and watch my budget. I have no car payments and 50% of my after tax income goes towards my mortgage. I also max my RSP every year.

I'm trying to buy low end upper end, so no Brioni or Tom Ford. Something that will last and be comfortable to wear. I'm sorry, but pants from the Bay or Moore's just don't cut it. They don't feel right and some of them even itch.

I noticed I could have ordered Canali pants for $295 from Nordstrom's, which are probably the same pants that Rosen's is trying to sell for $375, but didn't think about mail ordering pants, so ended up paying $295 for the Samuelsohn pants. Probably didn't enter my mind because I like the way the Samuelsohn pants close with the clasp. The Canali's close with two buttons, which isn't convenient, although they fit even better and feel even more comfortable than the Samuelsohn's, if you can believe that.

p.s. No brown shoes yet (Spermie). Maybe next pay period. Looking at buying Allen Edmonds and will probably have to buy them out of the U.S. Just trying to find a vendor that offers a better price than the corporate website.

It's time for you to make a quick trip to US. I was down there last weekend and decided to go shopping at Nordstrom. There were lots of sales in general. I bought a nice Hugo Boss shirt for $59!
