What bad luck! Im pretty new to this and I walk in to a MP and the girls come out for a meet and greet and the next thing I know the police busts through the door! I wasn't even going to stay but the cops wont let me leave. One of them asked for my ID and I was stupid to give it to him. Then he starts writing it down. I tell him he has no right to write down my personal info as I have done nothing wrong but he says "well you gave it to me". He tells me all he's going to do is run a records check on me and that is it and the info will be discarded. I am really worried. What should I do? Anyone can offer any legal advice?

Head for Mexico...

Doubt you have anything to worry about, unless you have warrants or court orders to stay away from rub and tugs.

Very bad advice, you should be ashamed of yourself. Mexico and Canada has an extradition treaty.;):)

whatami, you have very little to worry about. The cop probably just wanted to make sure you have no outstanding warrants. You were not arrested and there shouldn't be any permanent records of this incident.

What you should have said back to this LE was "Why did you ask my ID then?"
Anyways, like Wilde and mto said, you got nothing to worry about unless you have criminal records on some outstanding warrents.

Mind letting us know which MP was this?

To follow up:

No, I've never had any run-ins with the cops. This is the first, not even a speeding ticket. The cops came in after all the girls left the room and I was on the phone about to leave. I'm just worried some sort of official or unofficial file will be kept. Does anyone know wha kind of information they can get from their record check? Is it just criminal records? From my ID can they get info such as my career, education. Etc?

You need to at least tell us the place or some of us will just think you're trolling around with us.

Gee....that would be new.

You have nothing to worry about, especially if you have nothing outstanding as in warrants or tickets. Should not have given your ID though, unless you are being charged, but it is kinda a freaky situation, so don't sweat it, man.

So, what MP did this happen at?

@the Meat Market!!!lol
was it a "legal place"- licensed? or a micro? -in an aprtment building? and were you inside vancouver? or where in the lower mainland were you?

a lawyer has advised me that anyone facing charges under these laws should mount a charter challenge of their arrest, then wait for the BC Challenge( already underway- pivot legal) to make its way through court and your charges will be nothing, gone.

if you were not charged then you have nothing to fear however, who knows what they might do with your personal information....

love susieXXXO

anyone who would like to contact me about this should do so.

The pivot legal society website states that one has "the right to silence. You can refuse to talk to police or answer their questions. The exceptions are if you are in a bar or a cinema, driving a car, or they say you broke the law, then you must give your name, birth date and address, or show your ID, but you do not have to say any more." As other posters have indicated you shouldn't worry too much.

Regarding the establishment, were they shut down? Stating they were raided implies that however you indicate they have asked you not to mention their name so this also leads me to believe they are still open. A visit by police doing a walk thru is a little different then a raid...

I was under the impression (from what I was told by an officer) that any time you talk to a law enforcement officer, it goes on the record... whether you were charged or not.
It may not show up in records checks for certain things - but if they dig, it's there.
yes, it's considered organized crime so we become"known to police". it can be a problem.

To the OP...you were not caught in the act of the horizontal mambo with a gal after a door was kicked in so dont sweat it....as for giving over your ID well that comes down to you being intimidated enough to do so.....though it will not likely have any impact on you...hell you could say you were in the establishment as you wanted to use the washroom.I know if I ever have a door kicked in at my fave place I wont be intimidated and will say I met the gal on POF and this was our 3rd date LOL...seriously though....dont sweat it...if you were in any trouble you would not have been able to post this thread ;)

I guess it is not a raid. I don't know if inside theterm correctly. The MP told me it is a routine check.

if you aren't going to tell us the location, I think you should restrict your opinion shopping to the people you are attempting to protect.

bah, the whole law thing these days are sooo corrupted with too much bullshit... remember law enforcement ALWAYS wants to bully you around. i learned that experience the hard way, and not while being busted in some MP.

yeah, can you imagine NOT handing over your ID when requested? If you spout off about your legal rights , you'll end up tazed on the floor in your own pee....
